Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) ATF-3 in 47re

i was told 3,4,5 were all ok to mix as they were the same-my truck is an 01. 5 and calls for 4-am i ok with 3 as thats what they had -the manager(older gent) said it was fine--would like to change it tomorrow so a couple yes or no,will do

You can run what you want. +3 has more friction modifiers than Dexron III/Mercon, +4 has more than +3... there is no +5.



While it's not recommended by Dodge, we run Dexron III/Mercon in our trucks... less friction modifiers = firmer shifts, less wear and less heat.

Ditto on what Keith said. All i run is dextron 3. All we use is DTT trans/TCs though,A stock TC may shudder when going into lockup. We have never had one issue using dextron 3,and its less than 1/2 the price.

i think i will go get the Dexron -not a problem replacing the 4-5 quarts as i am not draining the tc?--also i did a search but could not find info on How to adjust the bands-never done this-seems simple but???? need a service manual

Here you go- http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/transmission/automatic/AT_band_adj.htm The pan will need to be dropped to adjust the rear band.
