Vacuum pump PUKING oil!

transmission Flush

my son has a 93 D250 5 spd manual and the dealer told him to put ATF in the transmission when changing fluids. is this right ???

THANKS !!

No If that truck has the NV4500 Trans. You need to use Part #4874464!! If you use any other fluid in the NV4500 you will end up with shift complaints. There are special additives in the fluid that are a Must for this trans to function properly

make sure it's spec'd for it then. My buddy's Ford zf 5 speed uses ATF. However, the NV4500 IS NOT spec'd with this fluid. Doublecheck thats for sure.

I don't use the factory recommended lube for my NV4500. In fact it shifts smoother than the factory lube ever did!

A stock '93 will have a Getrag, and the recommended fluid is 5w-30 synthetic motor oil. ATF works fine too.

Far more important than whether you use 5w-30 or ATF is that you need to overfill the transmission by 1 quart.

Do some searches in the 1st gen forum about the Getrag and you'll see lots of discussion about this.
