Giant microwave turns plastic back to oil

Was the use of automatic transmission fluids discussed here? Somehow I cannot find the right words to pull up past discussions on this forum. But it seemed like there was some negatives to its use. A diesel/gas mechanic ask me recently and said they have quite a bit each month that is hauled off by recyclers and they have to pay them to take it. thks Larry

atf is not meant to be burned. some use 2 cycle oil,or one of the approved prodects, like howes or standyne. I use howes meanerand mmo. now have 444,354Kms on original vp-44. would never use atf in my truck.

The newer transmission fluids have all kinds of friction modifiers and detergents that are not good for the tighter tolerances in injection pumps.

fuel or not

Hello All

Lets stop and think about this !

Would engine oil have friction modifiers in it and the same for detergents , I would think so, any of you out there care to explain this one??

Just because some one says it wont work would be about all it takes for some of us to prove them wrong.

Thought would be if its filtered and dry (no water in it) and not mixed with other fluids then it would be able to be pumped under high pressure to run a trany then it would and could be used as a fuel pumped under high pressure.

If I was to do it I would first of all get a supply of it and let it settle out then using only the top part of the oil (that is what it is) heat it up to over 212 degs to rid it of water, then filter it out to 1 mircon for at least 12 hrs. then mix it with diesel fuel at say 10 % and see how it works working up to will I guess to 100% ,as far as the color and DOT will if they take a sample and they try to fine you take them to court and make them prove its red #2 any good lab can tell you whats in there for about 150. 00 bucks they don't use ATF to color red #2

sound like a plan to me. :)

here are some MSDS sheets that I found this will tell you what it is.

I can assure you that it will run very good on new ATF as I has run it but I have never run used ATF. We had a 55 gallon barrel of ATF without a label at work. We didnt know what type it was so I ran the whole thing. I blended about 50% with diesel. It ran sweet.

hello to all

the thought is still in my head so much that I must try it. have a filtering unit that is just sitting there so I going to do it. Told my friend that we needed some used ATF at 3:10 today and he called me back at 4:15 with good news we have 50 gallons of the red stuff . so it looks like its a go.

Will be posting about this later as we get closer to using it. we will try it for blending in diesel and in waste veg oil then running it my wifes truck if all goes good with mixing it starting out at 10 % then working up to ?

as I said the ATF will need to settle and be water free this should take a few days to do so it will be late next week before any thing will be ready

thanks for reading

I say "go for it. "

An associate was telling me the other day that a Ferd mechanic friend of his working at the Ferd house was running a mix of 80% used ATF/20% diesel in his Flowerpoke - said he couldn't pull very well at that ratio, and for pulling he used 50/50. I'm going to track him down and talk to him. (The mechanic get the UATF directly out of the machine they use to flush trannys and it has a filter already on it. )

What about characteristics under high pressure of ATF vs D#2? I think trannys only go up to the couple of hundred psi where the VP44 goes well into the 2 digit thousands psi. Wonder how the fluid molecule will hold together?

Seems there were some discussions about WVO in the CR and that the WVO acted differently than D under the high pressure of the CR.

news

Sorry none yet

Having an issue with the oil itself the used oil seems to have a lot of water in it. If i can find some better trans oil I will try it but for now I have to stop trying to dry it out.

Thinking about a Centrifuge to do this also for the veg oil.

I have not given up on this just had to slow down. the trans oil should work ok,I just have to get it right.
