ATF oils

Hello.
Is it possible to fill ATF +4 in the 47RE? I think that +4 have replaced both +2 an +3. But +4 is syntetic and +2 was mineral? Or is both +2 and +4 available in minral and syntetic. I have also seen that +4 bottles is marked ATF U.
Is U and +4 the same?

ATF+4 is what I used in mine.

Just went with the store brand as its a synthetic and most likely all comes from the same barrel at some random plant.

Atf +4 is backward compatible in all Chrysler vehicles that called for regular atf

ATF+3 was discontinued over 10 years ago. +4 is the only option, and a superior one. Superior shear stability, group 3 vs group 2 (+3).

The “U” is Universal.
The 47 doesn’t really care what fluid it uses.
Use “U” if a lot cheaper, but +4 is a tailored fluid for stock clutches.

Your truck originally came with +3 which was a synthetic blend. The +4 is a full synthetic with a slightly lower viscosity. It is backward compatible with all previous Chrysler ATF's. Have been rebuilding Chrysler transmissions since 1990 and have had no problem with +4 since it came out.

Hello.
In the 47RE it si recomended to not use Dexron.
So is it some additive the Dexron missing, or is it some additive Dexron have that the 47 re do not like?

So if an oil is approved both to Dexron and +4, and the Dexron is missiong some additive, this additive probably is added?
But if an oil is approved both to Dexron and +4, and the Dexron have some additive, that the 47re do not like, than it be problem or?

Maybe there are no clear answers to the above questions.

I personally never trusted the universal ATF fluids for exactly the questions your asking. You can buy cheap off brand ATF+4 for a tick over $4 a quart and even cheaper if you watch for sales . It's really not worth saving a buck or two a quart .
