ATF Swap

Ok, I have decided to switch all fluids to Amsoil. My question is this if it only takes 4 quarts of fluid to do a service refill and the total capacity of the transmission is roughly 16 quarts, does this mean I have to do 4 service fills before I can assume I am running all Amsoil in the transmission? Can I have the transmission pumped to get all of the old fluid out and filled with Amsoil?

Here's part of the problem , alot of the dealerships were pressure flushing them but they were blowing out seals so they stopped. I wished they had a plug on the torque converter to drain it. My friend would disconnect the trans cooler and bump the starter to drain the fluid in the torque converter. Curious to here what other guys are doing. Remember you would only be diluting the fluid each time so it would take multiple changes to see it all purged.

find a shop that has a t-tech trans flush machine. this machine does not introduce any pressure to the trans system as the pump in the trans does the work. at my shop we will load the customer's fluid into the machine and flush it through. our t-tech holds 18 quarts so it replaces up to 95% first pass. the other thing is to make sure that the shop you find has someone who has done this as the cooler lines that need to be tapped into for the flush are some what of pain to get to.

You won't have a problem doing this in your driveway. When you go to change it, let it sit for atleast 6 hrs if possible to let all drain out as possible, then fill. I think the TC holds 3 qts, so it's not like you will have a bunch of old fluid still in there.

Kory, drop the pan, loosen the 10 VB Bolts, let it drain off the top half of the TC. Tighten the 10 bolts for the VB. In a stock pan configuration, this will require 10-11 qts to refill.



The TC holds way more than 3 qts on a diesel.

I use a flush machine on all my auto vehicles. Best thing since sliced bread.

It is ok in the driveway if you have three people. One to start, press brake and put in gear, one to disconnect the trans cooler line and redirect flow, and one to add fluid to the system.



I also switched to amsoil and used 20 quarts to the power flush. Had guy who was redirecting flow watch fluid and when looked new stopped engine and reconnected and check level. worked ok but would have been better to power flush.
