Interesting take on trucks...

First solo flight today

Hi all,

I just upgraded my P3 933 Gateway system,I took out the motherboard and I added an ASUA A7A 266 Motherboard, and an Athlon 1600+ XP Processor and running Windows XP home edition.

With Nvidia GForce 2 Ultra,SB live sound card.

I never had an Athlon system, always Pentium.

I keep hearing about how easy it is to overclock the Athlon processor,I never have been a believer in doing this, but I have talked to many that have done this with remarkable results.

But never knew how to do it,is this a good thing or not,if so how is it done?

So far I am inpressed with this system, but I get a lot of error messages, saying program halted, what does this mean,is it the XP still being buggy,I have Millenium on this system and the XP is an update version,Im just wondering if I should reformat this harddrive again, but I just put it in brand new 65 gig HD.

Any comments would be appreciated... :D

When I get a chance, I'll post some links. I'll be working all weekend:(, so I probibally wont get to it until next week. Sorry. :(

If you cant wait you can get them out of any search engine. Thats where I got them.

I have the Athlon too. I like it. Make sure you have beaucoup cooling. Heat is the big thing with the Athlon. They say 3-400 Mhz overclocked isnt a big problem. I remember reading something about doing it through the bios. Bus speed rings a bell. I'm very computer illiterate, so dont take my word for it.

Keep us posted on your BOMBED computer!:D

PS

also checkout amdmb.com ... you can find overclocking specifics for that asus motherboard

if you want to get serious, you can unlock the processor, tom's hardware has a video showing the procedure

www.tomshardware.com

i'm on a 366 o'clocked to 550 right now, and a couple athlons on the bench i'm planning on unlocking.....

My son is big on over-clocking and all I got to say is get additional cooling when doing it. It helps to be able to monitor your processor temp at all times too.
