Welcome aboard. I don't recall anyone ever talking about this product on tdr. Is it for the cab or exhaust? If for the cab then a lot of guys are doing it themselves with a produst like dynamat.

TDR members, "millfly" and "jcbrown" have added the complete ATP package to their 24v Rams (hood blanket, valve cover blanket, exhaust manifold blanket, turbo outlet blanket and the partial downpipe blanket). In fact, "jcbrown" shipped ATP the muffler/tailpipe assembly from his Espar hydronic heater so they could fabricate a custom blanket for it. I have seen the complete system on "jcbrown's" Ram and can assure you it is a very high quality product, fits exceptionally well and dampens the noise of the Cummins quite effectively.

I installed mine about a year ago. The pieces that have the biggest effect are those that go on the exhaust manifold and the two pieces that go down the exhaust pipe from the turbo. In my mind, the hood blanket and valve cover add just a little. Tim at ATP is just great. I had to send one of the exhaust pipe pieces back to Tim so he could modify for a ebrake I installed. He did it for nothing. I was talking to Tim about a month ago and he said he now has a cover that goes over the oil pan that really cuts down on the outside noise.

The manifold piece is not the easiest to install. Several trips back and forth above the engine and below to tug and pull into position.

Hope this helps.

A question on this.....

How much impact does all this have on the heat dissipation that would normally occur without all that wrapping?? I'm thinking that cooler running valve trains, cooler engine oil (because pan is exposed to outside air flow) would be a benefit. Do you have an oil temp gauge? Have you seen any changes in oil temps? Have you seen any changes in pyro temps/cool down time? etc...

Just curious!

Bushwakr,

I spoke to Tim at ATP about this and can only repreat his words as I do not have the science behind it. He said that the insulation actually ensures that the heat goes out the end of the tailpipe and does not raise the surrounding temperature of the engine compartment as it would w/o the wrap.

I can tell you that I pull a 11K fiver and even when my pedal is pushed to the floor and I am maxed on boost climbing hills in the Smokies, I have never exceeded 1100 on my pre-turbo egt guage. I am also equiped with a VA box. So it has not raised the temp of my engine.

Also, it only takes a few seconds for my guage to drop back below 300 before I turn it off regardless of the conditions.

Hope this helps.

John is correct. I've added the oil pan cover to my ATP engine wrap. It does keep the noise down and the heat within the engine.

If I'm running hard, it will take longer for the turbo to cool down with the turbo shutdown monitor.

Tim at ATP will do custom fabrication. I've had my exhaust pipe blanket modified to fit around the exhaust brake bracket without covering the vacuum chamber. Excellent customer service and product.
