I installed my arcflow last week and have put over 700 miles on it. I have noticed a decrease in MPG and suspect a boost leak. There are many places for the leak to be occuring and I am looking for the easiest way to find it. Any suggestions?

P. S. see photos in my gallery on install

We have always used shaving cream. I know it sounds retarded but, if you spray it on the area's you think are leaking, you will see any leaks. The shaving cream will have a hole sucked in it if it is a vaccum leak or one blown out of it for a boost leak.

Aschwartz the angles sure don't seem to match up with your intercooler tube. Sure looks like a source for a leak right there.

Vaughn

Vaughn,

I agree that the tubes don't align well. I spoke to BOB4X4 about it and he said that is the result of one size fits all. The power steering lines rub and the rubber boot as well. I will be zip tying them to the negative battery cable to reduce the wear on the rubber boot. I also spoke with ATS about this issue and they said that it is normal. When I get home I will try the shaving cream trick. I was going to use soapy water but I did not think that it would stay on while I drove the truck to create boost and then popped the hood and checked it.

ASchwartz,

you commented in your photo gallery "I am not sure if the ATS Intake manifold improves the airflow over stock ... " -- that has got to hurt for as much as those intakes  cost.

your pic just showed the ATS manifold and the stock was just on the edge of the photo

Ron,

The stock manifold encloses the bolts and is smoother then the ATS. Also the locations that are pretapped would cause some turbulence as well.

My main reason for purchasing it was to have the pretapped locations. The improved flow claim was the sugar coating. I won't know for sure until I get the leak (?) fixed.

But... you could have just removed the stock intake horn and drilled/tapped that for whatever you needed, for a lot less $$$

(Says the guy with the Banks High-Ram on his truck... but at least I'm honest, I just bought it because it looked cool :D)

i hear BD [not bullydog] is designing something to compete with the banks and ats versions... yeah, them things look cool. . i mights have to get me one of them once i've seen 3

I think I found the leak with the shaving cream trick. The stock bolt (8mm) that holds the oil dipstick was slightly bigger then the hole on the ats manifold. I worked it a couple of times and thought I got it plugged the first time, however the sahving cream told I did not. So I wen to the hardware store and purchased a 5/16 bolt and added pipe thread tape and was able to get it all the way. I reapplied the shaving cream and found a new leak. I asked ATS prior to the install if they recommended any sealing additives and they said no. I will call them tomorrow and see what they say now.

New ATS Intake for 03 Installed

Just got done installing the redesigned intake manifold. It fits like a glove now. ATS even supplied a new gasket. The dipstick hole is right were it should be not were they had it originally. Throughly impressed on the new design.

I tried it out this evening. I could not get the egt's over 900, but the box was not installed. I was a little leary flying down the back roads with a bent axle leaking fluid, but I had to try it.

Here are some photos. The first one shows the new placement of the dipstick and the new logo, "ATS Arc Flow"

The next set of photos shows the clearance between the manifold and the power steering lines. This is a much better design.

Yes,it fits very nicely now. I saw Avi's origional a poor fit to say the least. This one clears the p/s lines :)

Bob

Yes, they did redesign the manifold. It clears the power steering lines with about an inch to spare. See the photos above.
