ATS Aurora turbos

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

Huff or Bark that is the Question.

Intermediate Shaft?

Anyone using them? I haven't seen a peep of them mentioned on the boards!

I'd like to see if they are as good as the B1 and USB turbos that are in the same price range...

Justin

I think they are the same ones that ATS (Automatic Transmission Specialists) of Denver had been talking about.

At the TDR/ATS day in February, one of the guys from ATS, the turbo company, came to talk about the new ball-bearings they are in the process of making. That was 5 months ago though.

Not ball bearing or 'Aurora' related, BUT..... ATS had a 3rd Gen by their booth @ TiM '04... . it had a rather sizable Holset VGT/VNT turbo bolted to the manifold.

ooh, i hope that makes it to production... :D:D:D

VNT/VGT is sweet. It had the pneumatic/vacuum (not sure which... ) actuated VNT/VGT assembly... I didn't have a camera on me at the time... sorry.

Matt

back on topic... .

ATS transmission has bought out ATS turbo, right?

The Auroras are NOT the BB turbos that were discussed last Feb in CO. It looks like the BB turbos are stillborn.

No one's using the aurora turbos??? Don't make me be the first!

justin

Well, honestly, I don't trust ATS diesel as much as some other guys.

I think I'll end up with a B1 from Rod or a USB from Pius.

justin

An ATS guy said that one of these Aurora deals took a full second off their PSD's 1/4 . I heard they are made by schwitzer (sp?). I guess ATS has ten of them on order, so they must be confident in 'em... .

I have the Aurora 2000 on my truck ,I've got about 3000 miles on it. So far I really like it. I've pulled with it twice and it works great,I also have the TSTCR box. It also helps keep EGTS down too. It is a schwitzer turbo. Also it spools up good. Seems to be a very will built turbo. WILDMAN

I have driven an ATS Aurora turbo equipped 3rd gen.

This same truck put down 460+hp at Muncie with a TST and EZ and ATS transmission.

These turbos are also a direct bolt on for 3rd gens.

--Justin

Any word on how tough they are? EGT reduction? Pressure ratios?

I'd like to see some numbers on drive/boost pressure to see just how efficient they are.

Can you verify the direct replacement statement as I haven't seen one installed yet. I don't want to lose my turbo mount Jacobs. :D

What swayed your decision towards the Aurora?

Found this thead by doing a search for the Aurora.

So, what's the opinion of this turbo a year later?? I want to put a turbo on my '01 and would like something that is a direct bolt-up to allow the use of an exhaust brake on the elbow. The ATS folks make it sound good... . "spools fast w/ good top end perf. up to 450HP... " I'd like to get some "real world" feedback on this unit.

Thanks!
