BOMBING withdrawls

well i sent off my converter to have it updated with the new ats shark tooth stator. wow is all i have to say what a d/f like night and day from the old ats converter. the fluid coupling is much better without a huge rpm drop when locking up in od. that tells me improved efficiancy. now there is no reason to have a lock-up controller unless i want to lock it up exteme pulling. that is why i also installed billet shaft. all said and done i am satisfied with the way ats handled my problem and will finally say the new tq tiger tooth converter is worth taking another look at. also transmission guy improved my shift points. . i am happy to be back in the white beast thanks.

Thanks for the report!

I intend to "update" my old 96' like you did hopefully right after the

first of the year. Back in May I rode in Clint's 03' Dodge CTD CR

with that new stator and it was very impressive to say the least.

i already had the full ats transmission except billet shafts so when i blew the oem shaft i sent the old ats converter back to be updated and installed a billet input shaft. the new sator is much better than the old one. before i had a huge rpm drop when locking up in o/d now there is little d/f. the old converter i could goose it a little and make the tach move all over the place now i actually feel the power being transferred without having to use the lock up switch.

Shark Tooth Stator

How does one tell if this is the converter that they have? My ATS trans & TC was put in about 5 weeks ago. I am very impressed with the perfomance but am curious now that I read this thread about the new stator design.

i am almost certain you have it call ats and ask them if you have got it also ask when they started installing them for all of out benefit.

I called my ATS dealer the other day. He indicated that he is fairly sure that most converters shipped since "sometime in October" have the new stator design. Mine was ordered mid September. My dealer had just been at ATS's shop and learned of the new stator design so he asked for that when he ordered the parts for my truck. So, I am fairly certain I have the new stator design. Sorry the date I got for the switchover is kinda vague.

I wonder if there is a way to tell by looking at the TC housing. Are there serial #'s on them maybe?
