Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) ATS built nv4500 Q's

my friend wants to start bombing his 99 5spd and wants to know if anyone has any expierence with the ATS manual trannys and there realiability. he'd like to start tuning with a southbend clutch and a built or updated trans. can anyone lend some suggestions besides the obvious (guages, kdp... ). thanks

How about a little more info, How much HP is he shooting for and most importantly what will he be doing with the truck? towing, pulling?? dont know anything about the ATS nv4500, but in general, the 4500 needs 5th gear addressed. Fully splined mainshaft would fix 5th, and depending on HP level, you may want 1&3/8" mainshaft and dual disc clutch.

i know he wants hes shooting for around 400+ hp and the only thing he'll probably tow with the truck is a two place sled trailer. ive heard about the 3rd gear also grenading itself in high horse applications, is there a fix for 3rd? we're fairly new to this so hang with me. thanks
