After spending 8000. 00 on a full bullet ATS Transmission, I got 30,000 miles and 14 months of use. During that time it leaked for 12 months and broke down 3 times (1 flex plate,2 billet input shafts).
Last Saturday the input shaft broke again so it was towed to shop. Talked to Mike on Monday and was told Clint Canon (ATS Owner) would give me a call this afternoon.
Monday, Tuesday went by, so I called ATS again and talked to Kelly. She said, "Clint will be calling".
In the mean time I call my local shop to let them know I'm wait on a return phone call from Clint Canyon before I give them the go ahead to get started. They were upset because my truck has been on there lift for five days!
Wednesday went by and Thursday I get a call from Stewart Cables stating he is a Attorney and Clint Canyon would not be calling.

Two days later ATS web site is updated with a 7 page Warranty pdf.

I've called ATS on different things and asked to talk with Clint and he has always returned my calls. But I'm thinking that your call might be a little different then mine. I hope that everything works out for you, I'm just glad that I have a Goerend Bros. Trans and Dave is only about 30 mintues from me!

Good luck, and if all doesn't come together give Dave a call, he won't avoid you!

Contacted the Bar in Colorado and there is NO Stewart Cables practicing law there and they will be investigating the the phone number I gave them.

I am sorry to hear about your luck friend. My father has lost way more than that to Mr. Cannon. We had a truck down there for work several times and each time they said it was fixed it ran worse. After taking it in about 6 times for the TC problem we knew about they said it was fine so we put in a crappy 400 dollar converter and problem solved. Various other problems came up with them as well such as rounded off engine bolts and what not good luck

Do you think a few hundred TDR calls to his office eon your behalf might help things along? If so let us know im sure we could tie up his assistant for a little while with messages.

Might put some pressure on him to make it right if he knew how many friends you have that might change thier buying habits of aftermarket parts based on his handeling of your problem.

Another incident of ATS products takin a dump and them not steppin up to the plate and complete avoidance. Thats why I will NEVER spend so much as a dollar with them; theres better products for less, and a lot better customer service out there to be had. Word of mouth has a big impact on companies' reputations that all the advertising in the world wont fix.

None of the trans builders warrantys shafts. ATS new warranty has been out for a few months. What is the hp of the truck, how did you break the shaft?

Ats

Have you been to ATS? That place is nuts with phone calls and customers. Not making an excuse for them but personally I have had a couple problems,. . all of my own doing by the way and they took care of me. On one issue I didn't change my flex plate and it grenaded my ATS TC and it did take longer than I had hoped for but it was prorated and I spent about 1/3 of what one costs,. . I knew better than to leave the oem one on the truck with the power I was runnin and I paid for it,. . but I feel they did everything I would expect. I also had a problem with compressor housing on a turbo and they totally took care of that issue,. . again, a little longer than I wanted or needed but they did take care of me. Also I'll say that I went out there it will be two years ago this Sept for them to test the setup on my then ATS twins and change a bunch of stuff on the A2k and then ended up fixing a problem I didn't even know I had when I drove in there,... cost $00. 00. They treated me with respect and went above and beyond the call just to get me fixed. Just seeing that place is an experience,. . it is literally a city block,... awesome.

None of my business,. . but if I were you I would call again and talk to Mike or Wade and tell them your chilled and want to talk to Clint b-4 this goes anyfurther and see what the man tells you. But imho you need to be reasonable,. . NO ONE that I know warranties an input shaft. If I were you and got a partial warranty for it or whatever,. . it would be reasonable. Have you ever gone to litigation b-4? Your atty fees for less than 2hrs will be more than a new shaft,. . you need to get reasonable about this and save yourself a lot of money and irritation.

This was meant to be constructive and I hope it helps you get a fix.

I'm wondering the same thing. Unless there's more to your truck than is in your sig, how are you breaking flex plates and input shafts? That's not terrifically easy to do when using the truck properly.

I hope none of you guys convicting ATS based on this one-sided post have jury duty anytime soon.

FWIW, I have nothing to do with ATS. My purple transmission was under my truck when I bought it. I have had one experience with ATS on a customer service level and wasn't impressed myself, but this is ridiculous.

Cali-600,

Sorry to hear of your problems. It sucks when companies build products that are advertised to do certain things and then can't handle it. It seems just about everyone who has dealt with ATS has complained about a product or their customer service. Get rid of their junk and go with someone who will take care of you.

We spend alot of money on our trucks for products and if they can't handle what their advertised to do then they don't belong on our trucks. I won't spend my hard earned money with them at all.

Good luck and I hope it works out for you.

They just added the warranty to the front page of there web site. When I bought the input shaft 10/05 it had a 1 year warranty. It broke and was repaired on 9/06. This time it broke and I get no return calls 10/07. Even the Ats authorized dealer the truck was towed to said the shaft had a 1 year warranty

Contact Intelligent Engineering, Inc has 1 year warranty also.

Horsepower is a TST on 3 and 3. Had a Bully Dog a few months back but I sold it a month ago. First shaft broke after I washed my truck I drove it around the block to get the water off and it broke at lockup. I coasted it back into the driveway. This last time I was going to work. Got on the freeway a mile from my house and 3 to 4 lockup it broke.

This is very true and I hope it is informative for others who are upgrading there transmission.

Back in 04 I did a lot of research and there were a lot of positive post on Ats transmissions. Drove to Colorado to have here stage five installed. Had to stay a extra night because the couldn't get the truck to shift to first. After driving the truck home the problems began. The transmission leaked all over the driveway. Every time I parked it there was a small puddle under it. Had it in the local shops 6 or 7 times and they couldn't figure out were it was leaking from. I think it turned out to be one of the cooler lines. When it was upgraded at Ats they didn't get the nut tight on the inside. Truck seemed to never shift right, it would go through the gears fast with out building rpm.

thanks for the post cali600. Its good to know the good as well as the bad of all these companies - even if they are a sponsor or not. Looks like a another DTT or Suncoast upgrade for my wifes truck.

Well stated. As they say, 'no matter how flat you beat the pancake... ... . there's always the other side. '

Well unless Cali-600 is lying and I can't see any reason why he would, then yes the jury is out on ATS, guilty of bad service. All they have to do is act like big boys and return a phone call, this post probably wouldn't exist, instead we all get to learn about the shoddy transmission install and leaks like a seive "built performance transmission". Then they try to sick some lawyer scumbag to scare off a customer who spent alot of money on aftermarket equipment, shame on ATS. I almost bought their Arc-Flo intake a couple months back but I went with the Pro-Flo from Glacier Diesel, it was cheaper, the service was excellent, and it is a better part. I don't think I'll ever spend a dime with ATS after this story and their "revised warranty PDF".

Just an observation: Once either party indicates going to litigation, discussions usually stop. The lawyers take over and the people paying the lawyers usually have to bend over... We all know who usually gets screwed.

The complete story...

Here we go again. We’re dealing with a person who thinks that he’s entitled to special privileges just because he knows of the diesel forums and threatens he’ll go post all of the bad stuff about ATS that he believes he’s experienced.

How about I tell you the rest of the story – the part that Craig seems to have neglected to tell everybody on all of the forums. Of course he’s not going to tell you of the abuse that he’s put his truck through, or the fact that ATS has helped him out before.

Why on earth would anybody neglect to tell you the rest of the story do you think?? Perhaps it’s because of the fact that 99% of all negative attitudes towards ATS are there because of some disgruntled customer posting exactly what Craig has WITHOUT telling anybody the COMPLETE story, for if he had told the complete story, people would know that he’s just full of hot air without a leg to stand on.

So, as the story goes, when Craig bought his first transmission on October 6, 2005, he purchased it with a billet input shaft, Torque Converter, and Commander. Lots of people upgrade to a billet input shaft because as everybody knows, stock shafts leave something to be desired in the strength department.

Just so you are aware, because we at ATS shoot straight, there was a problem with the Commander in February, 2006. We sent out a CoPilot box to replace the Commander – an upgrade that we didn’t charge for, and sent a UPS return tag to send back the defective Commander.

In March, 2006, Craig wanted to upgrade his Arcflow to the new, later model because he didn’t like the early model – we sent Craig a replacement on March 13, 2006 with a UPS return tag to send back the early model Arcflow. We replaced the Arcflow 1 year, 5 months later, at no charge, and didn’t even charge shipping to him.

We tried to get the defective Commander and early model Arcflow back from Craig until April 17, 2007 – 14 months later. We finally had to send him to collections because he refused to return the defective part to us. We STILL have not received these items back.

So, anyway, on or about September 25, 2006 Craig broke the ATS Billet Input shaft in his transmission – nearly a year after installing the original ATS transmission. As most people know, if there is a defect in a product, the defect typically shows up immediately – not a year later. We covered the broken shaft (although we didn’t have to because of the terms of our warranty) – Craig upgraded to a full billet transmission at that time, wherein he purchased the ATS Billet Intermediate and ATS Billet output shafts.

Also, Craig broke a stock flexplate… now he has a Billet Flexplate. I’m not sure what he was doing at the time, but I’m sure it was something on the lines of washing his truck or pulling out of the driveway when it happened… Wouldn’t we all like to know?

So, now Craig has broken another ATS Billet Input shaft… He was driving around the block after washing his truck the first time he broke a shaft (after driving the truck for nearly a year), and this time, he was merely getting on the highway to go to work. We told him that regardless of anything, he would have to pay labor and shipping. We would assess the damage here and let him know what the cost would be to return the transmission to ATS standards. He told us that we would be covering the transmission under our ATS Warranty – period! At that time, we told him that we have our procedures and that before any determination was made, we would need to inspect the transmission. This wasn’t good enough and he demanded to speak to Clint.

The location of our warranty on Restoring the layer structure... is, and always has been at www.atsdiesel.com/warranty. It can also be found under the Technical Information page for all Transmissions and Torque Converters on our website. Although it’s true that our warranty has matured over the years (such as adding clutch pack failure coverage regardless of circumstance for ATS Extreme Transmissions) , as it has always been stated, since 2003:

“Transmission shafts are not covered by warranty on any transmission due to the capability of certain situations to cause stress-loads beyond the structural ability of the shaft”

What this means, in short, is that EVERY shaft has a limit – because it’s Billet does not mean that it’s unbreakable – it means that if you do break it, you’re trying way to hard (i. e. abusing your transmission).

We have an attorney on site a few days a week. As ATS is a quickly growing company, we, like any smart corporation, have legal representation. Ours just happens to come on-site every week so that we may be able to deal with issues from graffiti on the building walls to employee issues to issues such as this one. As some have stated here and elsewhere, you may just end up speaking with him if you try to defame ATS in a manner such as this – if you have an issue, make sure you are telling the whole story. If you have a valid warranty claim, you WILL be taken care of.

We at ATS are not infallible – we’re human beings, and as such, we make mistakes sometimes. We take care of our customers first and foremost. It just happens that you almost never hear the good, and most certainly always hear the bad.

The reason that ATS is growing so rapidly is do to the fact that we manufacture superior products, and our customer service is absolutely the best that can be had. Companies cannot grow without customer service and support, and as such, the offer to Craig still stands – get the transmission back to ATS for assessment of damage and we’ll tell you what it’s going to take to get the transmission back to ATS standards. It’s not going to be free, but it will be fair.

Now you have the complete story.
