I am going to purchase a ATS Ceramic coated exhaust manifold on Monday and before I do I was wondering, is there really a gain from installing this exhaust manifold. What type of gains, fuel economy, power, EGT drop, plus correction of the #5 & #6 exhaust pulse? Thanks anybody.

I would say yes... it will help. The design is better in that the flow is much better than the stock manifold.

I'd say the only benefit to the ceramic would be, they won't rust on you. It may also help hold in the heat a bit better too.

I've also read that the stock manifold is prone to cracking over time. The ATS is likely made of a better, stronger material.

It's got to be better, just look at them side by side. I put on a 3 pc. 24V manifold and got my outlet back between #3 & #4, where it belongs.

I'm actually looking at getting it thru Diesel Performance Parts in Nashville,TN I think its II's piece, but its ceramic coated I do know that for sure. I was hoping to get a small reduction in EGT's, dunno.

I am also looking to get one. My stocker has acouple of small cracks in it. I am looking at getting the BD Exhuast Manifold. According to the Diesel Performance Shop that put my transmission upgrades in. Said it will lower your EGT between 100*-150* w/ better air flow. May or may not get alittle hp and mpg out of it.

i'd like to know the answers also. never seems to be a consensus on this upgrade.

The main reason I replaced mine with the ATS is that I had heard (and seen, including mine) of a few where the stock manifold had "shrunk" and the ears on which it is bolted to (the head) had cracked. Luckily mine had not cracked yet but that time was soon to happen. Who wants to buy a new head? To me, the ATS is piece of mind, just like the KDP job. Worth every penny. Just my opinion.

i put one in a couple of months ago. It bolts right in. Don't expect it to be a wonder cure. But it is a good part of an overall system (ie):intake manifold, exhaust, turbo upgrade etc.

If anyone is interested, I have an ATS 2-piece manifold that I ran for about a month and now have switched to a 3-piece for my twins set up. If interested pm me.

Thanks Guys,

Dustin

I put a 3 piece on mine (12 valve ) from BD about a year ago. In about a month it was all rusty. It did lower my exhaust temp about 100* I put an ATS 3 piece on my neighbors truck a few months ago still looks as good as the day it was put on.

Dave, my thoughts are that I hope I get some spool up and EGT advantage, at the level I'm at I need all the help I can get. My TST starts defueling at 1600 deg, I'm only set at HP 3/TQ 3/RP 3, and I can't go any higher on the settings, so I'm into adding some cooling mods before I add a modded CP-3, or different injectors, I'm going this route along with an intercooler. hope this helps ya in your ideas.

I have one on mine. The first impression was that it had better throttle response and better spooling. I still have the stock turbo, but it definitely made a difference. I can't answer the EGT question since I installed the TST the same weekend as the manifold. The TST was not operating at the time, but I did get EGT readings on my drive home. I personally think that the manifold is a wise purchase if just to prevent the long term problems with the stocker. Someday I'll be adding a larger turbo.

after the heat leaves the motor, lower etgs are not a bonus. Pistons are the parts heat is the worst on (aluminum) after it leaves the engine, it does no harm. (generalization)

Well I ordered it from Diesel Performance Parts, should be in very soon, I will post as to what all I see and notice, I already see that heater hose bracket is going to be a real PITA, well let everyone know.
