Has any body ever broke a input shaft or 2 input shafts, billet ones? I am being told by my billet parts provider that the ats flexplate is a piece of junk and that it broke my 2 shafts. And that anybody using a ats flexplate can no longer be considered warrantiable. I am just putting a feeler out there to see who is using this flex plate with billet hard parts, and maybe what power levels your all running. I sort of feel like a horses bee-hind. Thx

No one? I have spoken to nearly every transmission builder, and all of them have stated that the billet product builder i use is trying to just cover his tracks. I believe that my ats flexplate is a quality piece, and it is sfi approved. But is it too ridged or strong? Too thick? unbalanced? Too heavy? Too much rotating mass? I just am lost here.

I have an ATS billet FP in my truck and I agree with you that it is a quality piece. However I have heard rumors of certain trucks snapping billet shafts due to the lack of flex and too much power (750-900+). Haven't had a problem yet.

yes I know guys like maddog can break them at will 1000hp and slicks. When I have raced (once since last shaft was installed) or sled pulled (once since last shaft was installed) I have been at the 600 horsepower level when I stack my boxes. I dont drive around town and to work with stacked boxes (smokes too much). I only towed a 14 foot wells cargo trailer, and a 25 foot flat bed with a dodge truck on it (motor out). So pretty much i broke 2 billet shafts putting around town being dad, picking my kid up from daycare or going out to dinner. I do not beat the snot out of my truck, I have never broke a input at or on the track. I figured witht the 1000's of members on this board i could get a feel of how wide spread this problem is. And i have yet to hear from anybody tell me that they have witnessed or broke one of their own shafts under these conditions. The first shaft was easy to swallow (kinda) The second not so much.

Have had mine for about a year now and have nad no trouble but under certain conditions input shafts do break - older shafts have held up well. I guess you can say they don't build them like that used to.

When my transmission was built we put in the billet input shaft only. I asked at that time about billet flexplate and the consensus of DTT and my builder was (at least with my truck) to stick with the stock flexplate. We did install a new, stock Cummins flexplate because a torque converter bolt had backed out of my original plate and caused some damage to it. For your truck, maybe the SunCoast laminated plate would do the trick.

I wouldn't run the stock flex plate for sure, I have seen a stocker snapped on PBax's truck with just a TST and MP8. Stock turbo and all, say maybe 470hp. 600hp will twist it like a tuna can... . the stock FP is sooooo dang cheesy too.

He is still waiting for his DTT plate ordered in November. #@$%! :D

Are you running a lockup controller and using it on the street?

I'm running a manual lock up switch so I can control when I want everything locked down. I was going to go with the DTT option myself but the wait was just way to long and I need parts when I need them and the ATS was less money and a very nice quality piece.

no lockup controller. I really dont want to go to a different flexplate as it would seem tome that, that isnt the issue here. But to just throw away 2500 dollars worth of billet parts that i got from the same provider would be stupid. This time the input cracked , and lost hydralic pressure, by the time i realized it, it was too late. Welded shaft to converter, burned up drum, burned up front pump, all clutches, intermediate is burned up on one end as well. So i am screwed.

FWIW, I think you already have the answer to your question. No lockup controller and cracking shafts would seem to indicate a parts failure unless you just have something way out of alignment. Good luck with the resolution.

ATS Flexplate

I can't imagine why someone would say a billet flex plate would destroy input shafts. Unless of course there was a significant alignment problem. The stock flexplate is so lightweight I believe it would be worse for the input. It seems to me the billet flexplates would insure the convertor stability. If it were me I would put a dial indicator on all the parts and check the components thoroughly. Just my 2 cents.

My guess is somebody is trying to skate out of a warranty issue. Don't know the whole story though. Would be nice so people can avoid this vendor in the future.

I thought those shafts are supposed to be unbreakable? Guess not.

According to that thread looks like the manufacture is not standing behind them.

I'm thinking that the multi disc converters have something to do with the current rise in billet input shafts breaking. Any thoughts on this guys??

I'm run hard in the desert in my 99 with big 37's and fly like I'm not supposed to... and then tow a 40' triple axle loaded enclosed race hauler with the 05 truck---both fitted with ATS Stage 5 and no problems as of yet.

The 99 has 288,000 miles on the ATS and the 05 has 115,000 on the ATS stuff... still Rockin!

Email them your question and you'll get a call / email back quickly. :D
