Oo. Ats or bd ?

Triplelok with 117 square inches or bd 61 square inches??? I want to buy a torque converter 1 time and 1 time only. This is the last step in completing my truck. Can I have some info on people that are running them and what you are towing? Did it lower your stall speed and how much did it? Has anyone had problems with either one? :(

I'm not real about BD's converters but ATS converters rely's on lockup to put power down, anyone can only do so much with a milled stator. You need to address the transmission also and not just the converter, there are too many weak parts in these transmission's besides the converters.

ats or bd

I know about the weak-links in the trans I work for a dodge dlr as a heavy mechanic. I did go threw the trans with the $ 300. 00 kit from tst, I also put in the transgo valve body kit HD diesel too. But I have not put in any harden parts yet though.

converter choice

To me there is no choice - ATS is the clear winner, especially in the lockup clutch itself. You mentioned surface area but really that is a non-issue when it comes to holding power. It is not how many sq inches that determines holding power, but pressure per sq inch. A larger surface will affect wear but not holding power. Example: a 20 lb steel block will drag with the same force on a given surface whether it is 2" x 2" format or 12" by 12" format - the larger surface will just wear a bit longer. With the clutch pack type design, ATS uses, they do not need to run extreemly high presure for the positive lockup performance. High pressures will bite you in the behind eventually - the rest of the transmission is not really designed for it.
