I have the '95 Dodge line with the temp port built in. The area around the port is very hefty and I don't see how that could be a weak point. If you use the T type adaptors, I can see that being a weak point and possibly breaking. I would also like to know how many degrees the stock coolers bring down the temps at each pass. Trying to compare pan and line temps is like the difference between pre and post turbo EGTs... they are just not the same and some guys have found the difference between the two is far more than the 300* often mentioned. IMO the only place to put a trans temp sender is in the hot line.

K_Arts,

Its just like Koa_man said. There is a temp difference between the 2 places. I never said 1 way was more accurate than the other. I would rather have a less accurate temp reading than a transmission that was run dry. Didn't you loose your transmission line not long ago?

Stakeman... . don't worry, I never said that you said any one was better then the other, I was just confused on which is better.

As a matter of fact, I did lose my transmission line not to long ago, but it was because the adapter at the top of the trans broke... leaving it halfway screwed into the trans and half broken, also there was a break in the line about 2 1/2" away from the sender unit... but it actually didn't break where the sender was.

The only problem I personally have found with the trans lines that have the sender in them is that they tend to rattle in a big way. I am on my second line, both of which have this ear cringing rattle while sitting still at a stoplight. Once you get moving the rattle goes away... . but geesh does it drive you bonkers!!

Most of the ones I have heard of breaking were the ones with the temp port. That vibration you are hearing is what is breaking the line. I would hate to have one break on the road.

Maybe is just my stupid thinking, but is not temps. in pan important because pump suck the oil from pan and send it everywhere, to do the job. And basically after job is done , send to the cooler .

M:cool:

I think that it is ok in either place, but you could have temps of 350 in the line, which would cook your fluid, but only see 220 or something in the pan. IMO the peak temp is the most important one. I haven't heard of any problems with the probe in the line until now and mine hasn't had any problems.

Regardless of where you like to put your probe ;) what you are looking for are patterns. In other words, take me for instance, I like to stick my probe in that nice deep mag hytec pan and my usual running around temps with my DTT stuff is about 145-150* In stop and go, of course it is slightly higher. Now, if I'm running down the road and look over and all the sudden I'm reading 230* I know something is wrong.

Dan,

You better enjoy this type of probing because with a little one on the way, it's the only kind you will be doing.
