How do you mix (and store) your fuel additivies?

I am leaning toward thinking about buying an ATS 5 clutch torque converter because they are telling me that they don't make the 3 clutch unit anymore. Does anybody have any experance with this 5 clutch unit. Any input good or bad will be appreciated . THANKS IN ADVANCE
 
I am fairly sure this is what I have in mine. I got it in Sept or Oct of 04. My dealer/installer told me he had ordered "one of the new design" torque converters. I *think* he referred to it as their new "shark tooth" converter design. I'm unable to offer comparison to other converters (besides stock). With that said, I think it works very, very well. The fluid coupling, to me, appears really tight. The clutch engagement is 100% rock solid with any load at any throttle setting.



From the pics on their web site, it may be that there are not really more clutch disks, but that they have adjusted the friction surfaces to be on one side only of each fixed/non-fixed disk surface.



I am quite happy with my ATS purchase and how it performs.

I spoke with ATS last week regarding this 5 clutch converter and they said it is new, has better locking capability, and won't "hit hard" like the triple lock. He also said that they felt most of the broken input shafts were due to the hard hit of the triple lock. I don't know any of this for fact, but that's what I was told.

Hmm, I wonder now if this is what I have or not. I'm going to call my dealer to find out for sure.

So, if no slippage is present, it must lock hard. Sounds like it's immediate.

ATS 5 Star Converter

RJMANDERVILLE - I now have the ATS 5 Star and it's a lot tighter hydraulically than the previous TripleLok I had. I'd say the T/C clutch lockup seems about the same. I like the 5 Star much better than the TripleLok because the engine seems better connected to the trans under non-lockup conditions. I also have the ATS Commander to control the lockup point and highly recommend it as well. For my everyday driving I have the Commander set to lock at about 36 mph, which usually occurs between drive and OD when I'm driving normally. However, the shift to OD, will catch you offguard with it's abruptness if you keep you foot in it. What I'm saying is that the shift to OD in lockup will definitely get your attention. I'm sold on the ATS combo I have. Whereas, the normal factory lockup point occured around 45 to 50 mph, and with the stock trans/converter the non-lockup slippage was driving me crazy, so I went this route. I believe if you add much power, (100+hp), you will burn the stock torque converter clutch up in short order and the resultant debris will eventually cause your trans to fail. I hope this helps. :D

I believe I was either the 2nd or 3rd TDR member to get an ATS TripleLok, in early 2002, and I have posted many good things about Clint and ATS. Clint mentioned in passing to me when I picked up my truck, that they were going to go with a 5-disk TC. I am posting this to point out that they spent FOUR YEARS in development with that TC before they marketed it! I'd say that was pretty thorough engineering. But I'm still going to stick with my TripleLok! :p

On my 04. 5, it slipped with the Juice/Attitude on #5. A rough number would be somewhere in the 400RWHP and 760something RWtorque range (My truck stock is 275/514, plus 125/250 for J/A) I didn't go back and read the percentage slip but the "shudder" told me that "I done a bad thing. " Like WCPoe inferred, the stock OD shift has a hernia also at that power level and I don't know if the convertor unlocks to facilitate torque management for the shift to 4th and then locks back up. Someone with a better background in 48RE shift logic could help out with that one. If you backpedal the OD shift, then you might not ever experience slippage when unloaded.



Looking at your mods, you are probably there except you're losing about 50hp with the reverse lights, which is saving your convertor. :-laf :-laf
 
Reminder About transmission Guidelines

The only solution I can come up with to stop this is to institute a rule that when it comes to automatic transmissions if a post is started about ATS trannies ONLY those with ATS trannies or stock can post to it. If a post is started about DTT trannies then ONLY those with DTT trannies or stock can post to it. Likewise with BD, Suncoast, Goerend, or others. I find it sad that it has to come to this but I don't see any other workable option based on the track record. These battles have been hashed out over and over again and nothing has come out of them other than people being ****** off and driving users away from the site. From here on out we will be deleting posts based on this policy. If you see a post that falls under this policy DO NOT fire back at that person - simply report the post and it will be taken care of.



If a post is asking a general transmission question you can post how your transmission modification works - but DON'T discuss the other side AT ALL. Posts WILL be deleted with no notice that do not meet this standard.
