okay i just finished the install on my ats trans with the triple lock converter, and after filling it up checking the dipstick, it registered full, today is the next day, and it has too much fluid in it, its cming out of the dipstick and onto my downpipe, and starting to smoke, thats no biggie, i cna drain a little, and should fix that problem right? my bigger problem is, when i come to a stop in drive, about 5 seconds later, the tc feels like its going into lockup, AT A STOP, dunno why its doing this, but any help would be helpful please, let me know asap, thanks

well i'm trying to see if maybe installing a lockup switch will help, i think i'm gonna try it tonight i have hte instructions, so well see what happens after that, if that does'nt work then i have a bad sensor or something, or they gave me a faulty transmission which would relaly make me mad but thats worse case scenario

and one more thing when i let off the throttle i hear a really annoying whining noise coming from either right under the cab or from the engine bay can't really tell where exactly its coming from all i know is that its really anoying and i'd like it to stop haha anyways someone please respond, and ats isn't open until monday, so please don't say call them, even though i'm going to first thing monday morning and tell them my troubles anyways, if that doens't work i'll just call bill at dtt i think he has better customer service when i call ats they don't sound all that intelligent hmm why did i buy an ats in the first place lol o well someone please respond asap

well i think i figured out what the whining noise was, checked my ps fluid, just about none, and there was smoke coming from where the gear connects to the steering part, can't think of the actual name, which made me think it was low, so i'll add fluid maybe some conditioner, and see if that goes away, and i just installed a lockup switch to see if i can get teh tc to lock up only when i want it to, and not when i'm stopped, see what happens tomorrow morning, i still need to drain some fluid from the transmission though, still to much in there, anyways time for bed

In regards to your 4wd problem thread, and the whining here, it sounds like you have your vacuum lines crossed for the 4wd. The 4 port rubber plug on top of the transfer case only goes on one way, but can be forced on wrong. Pull it and check to make sure.

The RED and BLACK lines that connect to the metal lines should be reasonably error proof, since one is longer than the other at the connection end. I. E. The long hard line should connect to the shorter of the plastic vacuum lines on both ends.

You made the right decision going with the ATS, don't worry about it.

Did you install the TripleLok Commander?

I would caution against a mystery switch, as if you forget to unlock it coming to a stop you will cause some damage which probably won't be covered under warranty. In my old stock transmission, I had a mystery switch, and often forgot to unlock it when coming to a stop--the TC would just slip and buck for the 2 seconds it took me to remember it and unlock it, but that TripleLok WON'T SLIP! You will most likely damage the flexplate if you forget to unlock it and come to a stop.

It sounds like you are really burned out from doing all the work yourself. Let the truck sit today--don't work on it--give yourself some rest. Then call Clint tomorrow. Ask for Mike. If Clint is busy, Mike is the most knowledgable guy there.

well i let it sit all night, drove it today came to a stop no lock up which was nice, go about 2 miles down the road another stop and guess what, it tries to lock up again, no idea why, but it does, even withe the switch turned off, and it still goes into lockup when its supposed to at 45 mph and i can turn it on to lock up whenever, didn't know it was supposed to do that, but WHY DOES IT LOCK UP WHEN IS STOP ahhhh sometimes when i start it, and put it in gear, it will just about die, because its locked up already, so i have to keep on trying until it isn't locked, which sucks, but i'm gona call them tomorrow, and what ever they say if they say some type of thing that needs to get fixed i'm just gonna call a shop lol, i've worked on it too much recently

i'm just wondering but does anyone have any idea if too much fluid in the transmission will cause it to lock up? i do have too much fluid and am going to drain some when it cools off, let em know thanks

I don't think it's locking up, I think it's slipping in and out of gear.

With the trans over-filled, you're probably foaming the fluid, which is introducing air into the valve body, making it do all kinds of weird things. Just a little over-filled or a little under-filled can cause "behavioral" problems with our transmissions.

Drain the fluid so that you have the proper level (check with truck idling in neutral, on level ground), let it sit for about 30 minutes, then run the truck at a standstill about 30 seconds in each gear position.

If you still have the problem after getting the right fluid level, unplug the connector from the Commander, and install a jumper to connect the blue and yellow wires together. This will restore PCM control of the TCC. Re-test the truck. If the problem goes away, you may have a bad Commander. ATS will replace it for you.

If you continue to have a problem, it could be a sticking lockup solenoid. Remove the blue/yellow jumper (so the TCC never goes into lockup), and re-test. If you still have the same problem, the kicking/bucking you're feeling is probably something other than the TC locking.

Good luck

okay i understand about the foaming, but... i don't have a commander, technically i have a stage v (billet shafts) minus the commander, i didn't opt for it, because i don't pull any trailers and don't have an exhaust brake, but i can see what u mean by it doing weird things, how would i reset it without a commander after i drain some fluid thanks again

Okay, understood. (You may want to re-think that, since having the Commander allows you to run in lock-up much of the time, allowing more power to transfer to the wheels, give you some moderate engine braking back, keep fluid levels cooler, etc. ).

There's nothing to reset, since if the fluid level is the problem, it's a hydraulic problem, not an electronic one. Just drain the fluid to the proper level, make sure the valve body is purged of any trapped air (by cycling the gearshift through the gears), and test-drive it.

okay just drained about 4 our and put 2 back in becaue it was too low, now i'm gonna let it sit, check it again, put alittle more in if needed, and test drive it, see if it does it or not, i'm hoping it won't

okay now when in neutral, the level is perfect, whe nin park its WAY to high, dunno if thats normal anyways, it still DOES THE SAME THING AHHH sitll wants to lockup or whatever u want to call it, even though level is perfect, i have no freaking idea why its doing this

well tried calling ats and asking for clint and mike, guess they were busy all day or something, called 3 times left my number to call me back at, and nothing and now there closed, only guy i could ask the question was matt, and he said it was the solinoid for the tc lock up but i'm starting to think its not the tc locking up its the valve body doing weird things so, another day nothing accomplished on it, still having problems, wow what customer service they have after i spent so much money o well, guess its just my luck

OaborgaG, I just happened to log on and saw your post at 4:30, 5 minutes after you posted it. In your post you say ATS was closed. So I just called ATS--they aren't closed, and I had no trouble whatsoever getting Clint on the phone. He said he has returned all the calls left for him today, but since I can't find your name in these posts, I couldn't tell him your name. He said he will be there another 5 minutes or so. 800-949-6002

What is your name?

yeah i just put my foot in my mouth, about 5 minutes after i called he just called me, said that he's never heard anything like that, but before he had a truck that did a similar thing and he said htey ran a code test and had a pump problem, so i'm gonna run a code reader on it and see what it says, if it doesn't have anything pump related, i have no idea whats wrong with it

the a stands for Aaron, and my last name is self explanitory lol hence the "borba" and the other part is OG, which is on my tailgate after taking off both d's and the e in DODGE

That's cool Aaron! I've been in your shoes before, where I had done a major re-build--that took me days to complete--and then a couple of little pukey problems at the end just about soured me on the whole job! But persevere! You have done an amazing thing, to do it all yourself. Way To Go!!

When I first thought about getting my ATS I looked at all it would take, and chickened out and just drove to Wheat Ridge!! :-laf
