ATS controller

I just found out my faulty TST box blew out my ATS controller. My mistake. I gave my opinions about the controller before a proper diagnosis. Also, my opinion was only about the controller not the converter or the valve body which I am totally satisfied with. If I had to buy the system again I would do it without question. ATS puts the power to the ground flawlessly. And as I found out their warrentee is second to none. Thanks Clint. Jim Shaw.

Jim, my sentiments exactly. The ATS upgrade is the BEST thing I ever did to my truck. After 1 year and 24,000 miles it STILL gives me a BIG SMILE!

I wanted to give an explanation that may help with the transmission cooling issue.

The ATS transmission does circulate ATF through the coolers in park. If you just come off the interstate, pull into a parking lot, pop it into park and watch the transmission temp as you let the turbo cool you will probably notice that the fluid temp in the transmission goes up. Why? The transmission cooling circuit leaves the transmission and goes through the heat exchanger on the side of the engine where engine coolant is at 180 deg (operating temperature) circulates over the coils of tubing that the ATF run through. The ATF then leaves the heat exchanger at 180 deg. The circuit then continues up to the transmission cooler in front of the intercooler at the front of the truck where air passes over it when the truck is moving. Since the truck is not moving in park this cooler doesn't do much. Actually it does do some cooling. My truck on a hot humid day in South Carolina with temperatures of 90 and the humidity at 90% will have a transmission temp in park of 165 or 170. This is idling in park with the air conditioning going strong. Once I start moving the transmission temperature lowers once again again. I hope this helps.

What did you have to have warrantied rrausch?

JRandol, It looks like you misread my post. In the first sentence I am quoting Jim Shaw's previous post. I probably should have made it more clear it was a quote.

I've never had to use my ATS warranty. My Stage IV trans works as flawlessly as it did when I picked it up at Clint's place a year ago.

Got my ATS TC & Valve Body put in yesterday. Put about 50 miles on it so far... ... . Oo. This thing is great!!!!!!!! Feels like I have a new truck again, with WAY better shifts!

Long story, I'll tell all later. But..... I solved my nightmare and got the ATS put in. I gotta say thanks to Clint and his staff for getting me out of a real bind!

Rrausch, I'm curious why they elected to go with a stage4 transmission. What is your current power level? Or do you tow heavy? I called and was told I would need a 1 possibly a 2, even with the mods I had told them I intended on doing.

Well, I am the sort of guy who likes things built real tough. I am in this truck for the long haul, and don't like half a$$ed solutions. I buy the BEST. I buy AMERICAN MADE when I can get it. ATS Stage IV satisfied all my requirements.

TSRAM:

Like Robert and others who have already posted here,

I have the ATS Stage IV in two Dodge CTD Pickups,

specifically a 1996 and my new 2002! I originally

went with the ATS Stage IV in the 96' as I was

at 500 H. P. at the time, towed heavy on a regular

basis and had begun drag racing the truck! My son

also has the ATS TripleLok Stage IV in his 2001.

He dynoed at 497 H. P. /1189 on a Mustang Dyno

last year at the Scheid Rally.

The transmissions have been nothing short of

FANTASTIC for both of us! We run our trucks very

hard but take good care of them. Clint and Ranee

Cannon and the entire ATS crew have given us

GREAT service and customer support anytime we

have called with a question or new products/updates!!

Another great point about their product is the three

(3) year 100,000 mile warranty they offer! One of

the BEST in the industry. When I bought my new 02'

there was no doubt in my mind about which

transmission I was putting in that truck,... ... . the

ATS TripleLok Stage IV!!

I have got a couple PM's from guys wanting to hear the story so I will post it here.

I bought a TC and Valve Body from an individual I had bought other CTD stuff from in the past and had great luck. Long story short the TC was toasted but did not know this until I had it all put together. BTW, I had ATS do the install as I thought since they were familiar with this TC (Triplelock) and the fact that my office is about 5 blocks from theirs this would be a good idea. So anyway, come to find out the TC is thrashed and here I sit with no transmission to go back in the truck. Not wanting to put back in the measily stock TC and feeling pretty confident about the ATS setup I asked Clint to set me up with his TC and Valve Body. Shipping back the Suncoast setup to this fella and know I am the proud owner of an ATS transmission. Please note that this was not Suncoasts fault, I did not buy the transmission direct thru them so the error was not their part at all. Based on my conversation with the guy I bought this Suncoast TC from it sounds like there was a shop confusion and I ended up with a different TC than I had wanted to buy.

2 days of driving it so far and I gotta say I am in love!! This is how a diesel should drive!! I have read all the posts in the past on all the different transmission choices and I am sure their are many good trannies out there.

I was really pleased with ATS's work. The whole bad transmission thing went down on Thursday afternoon. Friday morning I went down to look at my options and that evening I was driving home my truck with a real transmission in it. Clint even gave me the discount that was offered to the people that attended the rally back in January (I was there, had to buy it at the rally to qualify) probably cuz he felt bad for me in my predictament. (I gotta say thanks again Clint, my wife was indeed ****** at me about this whole thing but when I told her it wasnt going to cost as much as it should have, it did lighten the subject a little. ) Lastly, Clint and his staff stayed late to finish things up for me and I am very grateful, I picked up the truck at about 6:15 Friday evening and his whole crew was still there! I will definetely do business with them again.

My TST box was a stage three with remote. I had an EZ with 275's and my ATS stage four the truck ran great but I wanted more power. I got the TST and it was OK for awhile. Then my first ATS controller went bad,so I sent it back and had it replaced with no problem. The truck ran again for awhile but not quite right. Soon it was stalling when I had the controller set on low. The TST box started turning on and off by itself and the gauges read much higher then my A-pillar ones. I was in over my head so I brought the truck to Precision diesel here on long island. The owner Danny who knows more about diesel engines than anybody I know diagnosed the truck and said the bad box was sending signals to the transmission and fighting the signals from the ATS controllers. He replaced the box with a VA and bigger injectors,he also played with my timing and propane and got clint at ATS to send another controller under warrantee. My truck runs like an animal, never better. The TST box was never right to begin with. I could'nt be happier. Jim Shaw.

OK, sounds like the power for the two boxes was not isolated, and weird things certainly can happen when backfeeding is going on.

I had the first mods done at an all around truck shop, big mistake. There's nothing better than a real diesel pro when it comes to the CTD. Hard lesson learned.
