I went out to ATS this past week to have their NEW Aurora 2k installed on my truck. I purchased my twins last Jan and had been a bit dissappointed on the low end performance. Clint, Mike and Jason soon got to the real problem which was that I am/was severely overfueled and on the lowend until I built some boost then it was too laggy for my taste.

ATS had been telling me about a major modified Aurora 2k they were working on and wanted to try it on my truck. I'm pleased to say the new turbo worked great but also a contributor to eliminating my lag was due to me wising up and backing off on my fueling mods. In retrospect I probably messed up with having a set of tips modded to 40% over stock which was about 100hp to 120hp. When you take that mod along with my TST Twins/SMARTY/EZ then there is just too much fuel being dumped over a longer duration and really NO twins could lite it up until boost built. I really was missing my tire roasting days of early mods. What I did was loop out the TST and put in my PPE HOT/EZ and brother the roasting was ON with that new turbo!! Sweet!

I plan on taking the PPE off and trying the same thing with the SMARTY and see if it has the right amt of fueling to keep my tire roasting. Let me just say when I was running the TST/SMARTY/EZ combo it too would lite em up but I had to boost brake to make it happen,. . it's that day-to-day driving with outstanding low end that I had been missing.

I think ATS is right on target with this new turbo which was a complete renewal with both the exh and compressor sides being new and I believe even the blade section was new with different pitch and rake angles being different.

I will have to say most of the problem was my own doing but this new turbo was a great upgrade IMO.

The fit and finish of the ATS Twins is outstanding and this new upgrade I think makes this the set to own. :D

I too had ATS install the Aurora 2000 on my 99. Although I didn't have as much fuel as you, I am still running 100 hp injectors and an Edge Comp. With the new turbo, 3 piece exhaust manifold and ATS Arc Flow intake i dynoed it and got a solid 90 hp increase. And that was at Denvers altitude. Now my truck screams with 452 hp at the rear wheels. It still gets 20 mpg too and I don't baby it. Cant say enough good things about ATS products. Oo.

Testing continued

Alrightyyyyyyyy then,... I continued my testing by removing the PPE and put the SMARTY on with the EZ. It's hard to tell by just sotp, but it feels about the same as the PPE/EZ stack with having removed (by-passed) the TST. Spoolup is definitely major league improved by having by-passed the TST. I may have lost some top end power but it's not anything sotp that you can feel. I will probably just keep the TST on their and by-passed until I get to the track and can see if I'm getting any help or not.

The bottom line is with the twins you get better spoolup with LESS low-end fueling or at least less low-end fuel duration. My $. 02

Why not run the TST on 0/0? That's what I've been doing during daily driving with the Smarty on level 5. The only thing the TST is doing then is boost-fooling, or static timing if you want it to.

Tried it. You still have the duration extended and with the fuel still being used then it makes a major difference in out-of-the-hole performance. Like I said initially,... not that anything is wrong with the EH sticks, but with them in the mix and the TST's long duration then it's just too much fuel when you dump the throttle. Unless the dyno shows me differently then I will go back to stock injectors or to very slightly modified, i. e. like 15% maybe. I'll have to chew on that one for awhile.

Tks for the suggestion.
