I saw a part that caught my eye I believe it was made by ATS , I believe it was a variable performace plate for the 12 valve trucks it was controllable from inside the cab. Does anyone have one ? How well do they work ?

What exactly is this thing controlling? Is it just sliding the plate forward for more power and sliding it back for less power? I'm intrigued... .

I think I would use the Valet Switch that BD sells. Its less than $100. You can prolly goto hardware store and rig something up for cheap. Not sure what these costs I didnt check.

Piers told me the valet switch mounts on the AFC and blocks the boost signal coming from the manifold. If you have ever forgot to connect this you know the loss of power. This is how the valet switch works. Only I am assuming no boost leak.

So I guess they could be trying to side the plate like mentioned above. Or the could be controlling the boost signal like the valet switch, but in a variable fashion instead of just on and off.

Variable Power

It looks to me like they have replaced the stock torque plate with one that can be slid back and forward at will. I am guessing that the power can be varied between the top two curves on the graphs shown on their website.

I'm not sure

[snip]

The ATS POWER CONTROLLER was adjusted to the maximum setting for the above tests. When the POWER CONTROLLER is set at maximum, fuel delivery is then controlled by the torque plate and plate position.

I took this from thier site. To me this does not read like they slide the plate. Reads like they are limiting in some other means and the plate is only in effect then the controller is set to the max setting.

Well OK, read the next page on thier site ( 3/4 ). Look at the section about torque plates. Its says they are adjustable and can be used with the powercontroller.

Okay, that makes perfect sense... . many thanks to Slybones.

I do like the idea of using a variable bleed valve to bleed off boost going to the AFC housing... . much in the same way a lot of turbo gasser guys and gals control boost with their wastegates.

I also like the idea of using a solenoid to prevent boost from going to the AFC for a 'valet' mode..... mine is going to use a barrel-lock keyed switch... :D Just in case the girlfriend forgets to watch the EGT's while cruisin'!

Thanks a million!

Matt

Many thanks

Thanks for the links, It isn't exactly what I thought but at least I know now. I do however think it might be usefull if ya' got mucho HP. For now though however that same 300 bananas would be better spent on a plate. If nothing else I'm now informed

Thanks again: Brent
