Finally picked a new turbo after years on the backburner. I have the factory rambrake, and figured i might as well keep it, but wanted more oomph. I found a drop in unit that keeps the standard downpipe. Its a fenley 60/67/12 with a billet wheel. Wastegate is set at 38 by the builder. Its what the factory turbo coulda shoulda been if it had 300-400hp from the factory. Had it on for a few weeks now and it outperforms the stock turbo in every way including drive ability. The following has happened.
It moves just fine at low rpm in town driving/ traffic. No lag at 1200 in 4th.
Cruising psi has almost been cut in half.
Can comfortably get to 75 on freeway without exceeding 10 psi.
20psi moves the truck better than anything the factory unit ever did. Lower pressure and more air makes for a happy engine.
It sounds like a jet.
The owner duncan fenley is also very good at answering questions including noon on a sunday when i didnt know what to do with the old wastegate line. Good experience all around.
