I have gotten stuck before and had to get pulled out by a chevy. Not cool. We hooked the strap around the front axle. Is that ok?

Can a mount tow hooks on my truck on the front and where?

I wouldn't recomend hooking to the axle or any other suspension piece, front or rear. When you pull upon a stuck vehicle you are applying thousands of pounds of force to whatever you hook the strap to, depending on how stuck you or they are, you could be pulling 4 times the weight of the stuck vehicle, thats like 25,000#, and sometimes even more. I would recomend using clevis or shackles hooked directly to the frame with a minimum of grade 5 fasteners (grade 8 can be better, but they are harder and will tend to break where a grade 5 will bend first ). If you are talking light duty stuff, pick up a pintle style hitch thats mounted to 2" solid hitch stock and pull from your reciever hitch. These will allow a large strap ( 4 to 6" the size you should have for your truck) to lock into the pintle ring. You can mount a front receiver hitch for straight pulls, but watch sideways pulls with either hitch. See ya, keep it safe, overkill never hurts, under-kills.....

Well, except when a Ford or GM is doing the pulling - then it's likely to be substantially LESS... ;) :p

That's not so bad, my PowerWagon was once snatch-strapped out by a Suzuki Samurai! Used my nice big strap and it took him about five yanks to get be out of the sea of mud, but it worked! Amazing what a little momentum will do.

My advise: it's bad to pull on the axles or any suspension part. Also, you can damage brake lines and other things you can't always see that are attached to the axle. The receiver hitch works great, but don't ever ever pull with the ball!!! These things come off and go through windshields like a bullet! My strap loops fit perfectly inside the square receiver tube, then I pin it with the hitch pin. I have been pulled out this way (again, stuck in the mud playing) by a Ford AND Chevy hooked together and that was the only time I bent a hitch pin with the snatch strap.

Here's what I use:

This is the stuck pete I pulled out with it:

I bought the factory tow hooks off of Ebay. I like the looks of them. Luckily I haven't had to use them yet.
