Cummins Marine ISB 370 HP Injectors

I understand the latest issue of Peterson's 4 WHEEL DRIVE Magazine reports the P7100 injection pump has a service life of 1,000,000(one MILLION) miles. On the other hand, the high tech pump in the ISB's is good for, maybe, 50,000 miles before it begins its long downhill descent. Wow. Bummer. That's gotta hurt.

Oh well, I know they're some musically talented members out there... if there are, can you help by writing a ballad to ease the pain? You know, something like "I've Got The VP44 Injection Pump Blues"? I'm serious. Just be sure the song has lots of feeling, though, cuz us 12v owners feel your pain.

On the bright side, learned long ago that there's always a positive side to adversity. Look at it this way: with an advertised service live of 400,000 miles(?) your ISB motors will need EIGHT pumps before its ready for overhaul. Granted, DC should cover the first pump's R&R under warranty but the next 7 are yours. With that kind of potential volume, one of you guys might think about putting together a group purchase plan like some others on the website have done. We're talking some serious discounts here, guys. Don't despair. Sometimes the darkest hour is just before dawn.

Okay, I'll admit it. Maybe the reason I'm writing this is because I'm feeling dejected ever since TDR #26 came out and said no more columns about 12v's. It's been affecting how I feel about myself. Oh well, like some of us say, "If you can't join 'em, beat 'em. And thanks to Joe D. and Piers, 12 valves do it to the ISB's every day. So, because of them I really AM feeling better about myself lately. Trust me, life is too short to stay constipated too long. DON'T LET THIS NEWS BOTHER YOU!!!

p. s. HVAC: Since the 24ver's were split off from the rest of us I haven't talked to you in a while. I miss you, guy! Say, is your ISB still in the garage? Rumor has it you're only going to be a spectator at the upcoming May Madness. Tell me it isn't so!!!
Spoke to Rob S. the other day. He feels that splitting the 2nd generation Rams into two categories wasn't such a good idea after all. Should have created three categories: (1) 12v's (2) 24v's and (3) ISB owners who want to install the P7100 pump (rapidly growing class).

p. p. s. CHAW: Why is the 2000 a "much better truck" than the '96? Different Rims? Upgraded Stereo? Prettier Interior? You won't answer and the curiousity is killing me!

p. p. p. s. A Ram owner in another thread recently said, "I bought the worst models of each series. " He was talking about his '91 and his '99. Oh well, some people are just accident prone I guess.

Gawd, I love this site. Just remember, per the Webmaster, all replies must be in good taste.

Have a good one. Love you all.

For those of us that have it, it comes EZ.

You stock? Line 'em up big boy! You like stickin it to us, huh? My ISB will be storming when your old antique 12v is chokin. Good taste? I dont think so. This site enjoys lots of guys sticking together and makin improvements every day, uh, just like when the 12 valve trucks were new, or dont you remember when they were 160 horseys? Sure, you can outbuild a 24 valve, but if that is the point then we had better go back to gas and really make some power. I think optimization of the newest and latest technology is what we are about here. You can live in the past if you chose, but I'll stay in the present. I rose to the bait, but I aint bitin. Have a nice day, and may you keep your 12v alive long enough to see mechanical pumps come back. Ha!

OK! That does it!!! Rob, get these dozen valvers outta here!! Can't you keep them over in the 12v pen??? They keep comin' over here and taunting us for hecks sake! Are we supposed to sit on our hands? Hmmm? Their a bunch of trouble makers as you can see. You don't see us sophisticated valve engine guys throwin rocks at those crow magnon types do you? I propose they are in denial #ad

Looks as though EZ94 has scored the first game misconduct. Strip that man of 200HP and send him to the FLord site.

EZ, why does your brethren josparks want our 275 hp injectors for his 12v? Dont you have enough toys? Well come on over to our house. We have lots of boxes, injectors, and shiny little gadgets with sparkly connections that will make a modern truck sing. I'm still having trouble figuring out which is the tire smoke and which is the exhaust smoke. We have room for you, and they are making more of these multivalve engines every day. Must be hard to void your warranty on an out of date truck... ...

I posted about having the 89 and 99. Both rotary pumps. I do believe the inline pump is the best. This website is also the best where all of us "brothers" can come together for fun and info. People like you should spend more time having fun. If you are going to keep up with this type of talk I wish you would go join your buddies over on the PSD site. These guys(me included) have spent alot of money on the new ISB and we know what it is and is not. We don't need a beligerent jealuos person to tell us what we have. We do enjoy eveyones company but please keep it in good taste and act like an adult. I am glad you enjoy your truck I love both of mine and would buy another.

thanks
Don

Bring it on - how about you take out that sissy cam plate and line it up, stock to stock! We'll see who's got the boss engine. To paraphrase Ice T, I'll get midieval on your dozen valve @#s!!

That't MAGNUM to you, Havoc, err, HVAC, when you speak of the mighty undervalved obsolete engine! #ad
And to think I almost didn't visit this thread because the title was not applicable to my million mile pumped engine!

Great! another chance to stir things!

And. . . excuuuuuzzzzzeee me, but owners of the mighty undervalved don't need to go back to gas for more power. When Scourge of the Desert brought the Anaconda to the hallowed halls of Dynojet for the first time, the operator was politely sceptical after so many big block Chubbies were supposed to have 500 hp and delivered half that. The Anaconda was speculated to be at 375. OOPS, it delivered 376 hp and 936 ft lb on its maiden voyage #ad
#ad
#ad
And, recall Piers' recent trip to the Dynojet with over 450hp. These are rear wheel numbers. Don't need gas!
HVAC seems to be getting "enough" hp and probably has "plenty" of egt for the 24 valve. Wait until he finds a crack between the intake and exhasut valves from the egt! I thought airflow in the intake plenum was bad on the 12 valve until I looked into a 24 valve! Just because you have a lot of boost in the intake does not mean it gets all the way to the cylinders as it should.

Darn, there I go again, trying to put technical content into a thread meant just to say nyeh, nyeh at fellow Rammers!

Whether from history or daring, the overvalved seem less conservative than the 12 valvers have been on seeking hp increases. If so many 12ers weren't content for just 230 hp, things could get a lot more lively. That's OK. Just as we seldom see a stock P pump anymore, in a few years we may seldom see a VP44--at all! There may be arguments as to how many valves are right, but there seems to be a consensus on the pump! There may be a "run" on early 98 firewall computers as folks throw away unnecessary chunks of wiring harness and a brain damaged computer that looks for the weeny, nonexistent VP44.

There's hope still, overvalved ones! The more you mutate toward the ultimate, the 12 valve, the better you will like it!

Less conservative he**!!! We just have more to work with. Just cause you know when your pump will fail is no indication of when ours will. I doubt if there are any ISB's with enough miles to test the pump yet!!! Dont get to technical for us hillbillies, NASA will be trying to recruit you.

Game misconduct heck!!!!I say indefinite suspension from the league! Write the commissioner! Let's file a formal protest! We either get some action here or shut down the entire 12v league!!

OK, Rob, we need a call here. Does this post hold the record for the most posts per minute? PPM or maybe PPH (posts per hour). If I didnt have to get some sleep Id play all night. Cant wait to read this one when I get home from work tomorrow!

CHASER: Sounds like you're having a REAL bad hair day. Oops, wait a minute! Do I see a smile tugging at the corner of your mouth?

BIG DON: Understand one thing: I am NOT jealous of your ISB and the sound of your response makes you the belligerent party. Can't help it if you're 0 for 2, pal.

HVAC & SCOTT!: Gosh it's great to hear from you guys again! I've missed you both! Tell your 24v friends, however, to lighten up. A couple of your buds have enough paranoia for everyone in the forum.

And to the rest of you: glad to see you're taking it the right way. Have FUN with this topic!

Big EZ

At last I made the right choice! When my 97 was stolen, instead of ordering one of those nasty new 981/2 dozens of valves thingees, I searched for a used 97! I get happier every day after reading these posts! I'll have to put an alarm on my pump! Bosch Gold!

Hey, Big Don, this IS all in fun. We love all the Cummins powered Rams. Just wait until a powerchoke shows up and watch us! And don't think for a minute I'd turn down a new, free, Ram 6 speed, 245 hp (I need a tow vehicle for my 12 valve museum piece).

It was once commonly believed the world was flat... SOME STILL BELIEVE IT...

Progress, evolution, technological advancements... and MORE VALVES BABY =)

Unless you're talking Pro Stock Drag Bikes or other High Rev'n, High Lift'n Exotic Drag Toys, Performance is in the 4+ valve configuration.

Pumps... that's a different matter.

I think separating the two different valve camps was kinda fun. Even though I'm a 12'er I still like to peek over the fence to see what you guys are talking about and learn all I can about the 24 crowd. Reminds me of a couple of brothers who are always scrapping until some Furd guy gets involved then the two of them kick the cr*#p of of him.
