i have found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!!!

i have Alcoa untreated aluminum wheels on my 99 dually. after a winter snomobiling in Vermont they finish went to hell! i tried every wheel cleaner in the book to no avail. picked up some napa brand aluminum brightener #765-1458. this stuff is awsome. spray it on, wait 30 seconds, wipe down with rag, re apply for another 30 seconds and rinse off with water. if you guys have open pore aluminum wheels, give this stuff a try. i'm going to give them a good coat of wax as soon as the rain ends here!good luck... . james:D

Thanx james,

I'm having the same problem with my Aftermarket wheels (been a rough winter)

I'll look into picking some up.

Wow, would be much better than what I am doing.

I have spent each night this week using a polishing wheel, and a die grinder, polishing my wheels. I am using Some kind of bar polisher, and jewlers rouge.

With only one more to go, I guess I am goign to finish this, but I will definately buy some of this stuff, and see how it works on the 96 I just bought off of ebay that has alum wheels.

BTW I would sell the 96 if you want one

BigDaddy,

Let us know how the Por15 works. I've been thinking of trying this stuff on the next set of wheels I buy.

I also hear the Nyalic stuff can be applied to wheels.

Your products sounds interesting, and the first I had heard of any kind of aluminum polish in a spray can, kind of cool. I to have Alcoa wheels, "Hot Shots", and after a good buff, I am going to apply Zoop Seal. Seen it on several car shows and thought it was worth a try. Your polish is probably the ticket for wheels that are in good shape, but just need some shining. There is no easy way to remove the effects of winter and salt, The damage is more then cosmetic. It is sub-surface, and is a result of corrosion. This is a buff job, and doesn't have to be that bad. I do it every spring, all our vehicles have aluminum wheels, and I get to polish them out. A great supply company for all the "Buffs" and material needed is Caswell Inc. , they often run specials and their prices and service is fantastic.

I will try the spray you recommended after I get all the wheels back to normal. I also have 3 quads, and all of them have at least 2-sets of tires with Douglas aluminum wheels to match. That is 3 x 2 x 4 = minimum 24 wheels to polish out and be ready for dunning! Any thing that helps is welcome.

Wheel polishing

Hey try a couple coats of Meguiars 50 boat wax, it has some corrosion(salt) resistant properties to it. I applied two coats to each wheel before the first snow fall and the wheels have come out great, I rotated and clean a few weeks ago and they look great!

just cleaned mine the other day... i used real fine steel wool to get the heavy junk off, then used Lanes New Aluminum wheel acid, did two applications and then used mothers mag wheel polish. wiped them down and then put on three coats of clear enamal finish. they don't look brand new, but after running for five years they look great.

Does the NAPA Brand give an acid washed finish or a polished finish? Ive been useing some stuff i picked up at the truck stop made by PPC. They call it "EASY"aluminum polish. It is the best i ever have used and it is easy, no elbow grease. The trick i found was to use toilet paper as your applicator. I just squirt some on the paper and wipe it on till it turns black. Then i take a new piece of paper and wipe it off. Done. Of course the more ya do it the better the shine gets. I can do the wheels on my truck (16. 5X9. 75 WELDS) in about 1-1. 5 hrs and the levers and inner primary on my harley in about 15-20 minutes.

Just a note on some of the aluminum wheel cleaners that use acid to clean the wheels. If you clean them on the vehicle they can be difficult to take off because of the tight fit with hub piloted wheels.
