what makes a viper so expensive or a bently very expensive. not produced in large numbers, hand built and exclusive. they do sound wonderful when paired with good speakers [i personally like the b&w brand speakers] but very good sound can be had for much less. i heard a set of the ML monobloc amps [25,000 CDN pair] through b&w 801nt [15,000 cdn each] and it sounded wonderful. i have also listened to some wilson audio grand slamm's [120,000 cdn pair] through some krell monobloc amps [± 15,000 each] with a krell cd transport/preamp [10,000 cdn] and it was great... lots of money, but if someone has the coin, and wants the best, that is what is around for people to have. my audio stuff at home is a little less [more like LOT] less expensive, but for the price i paid for it, and the quality i got, i am completely satasfied. [but it still wasn't cheap/inexpensive. . ]

Hemi,

I've done custom home theater for 1. 5 years and have heard the good, the very good and the very very very good.

There is a exponential curve in price/performance. Above the very good, you spend LOTS more $ for only a little improvement.

Most often you start hitting the limits of source material, both audio and video when you get into the very high $ stuff.

Example - Superbit DVDs

Many folks complain they don't look any better than "standard" DVDs, but on my HT I can clearly see the difference.

So... If you buy the amp be ready to spend another $10,000 to $20,000 on speakers and other componants to be able to hear how good it can really sound.

i only have one superbit [panic room] dvd, so i do not have any to compare to. there are other titles i want in superbit [fifth element, starship troopers] but i already have the original titles, and don't want to buy another copy [although i have duplicate copies of saving private ryan, and the jurassic park 1&2 for the dts/dd comparion and 2 versions of MIB dts version, dual disc version. .  ] if they are that much better, perhaps i will invest in those 2 copies. . for comparison. i need more shelf space. . 400+ discs. .
