oxy/acetylene torch questions

Im inthe market for an auto welding hood. Any advice. Ive been looking at the hobart hoods. I know speed glass are good, but for the occasional welder are they worth twice the money.

i have a speedglass. had it for about 3-4 years. i really like it, has the auto shutoff and is easy to change out batteries and lens. wasn't all that expensive either.

If you are doing a lot of tacking or skip welds they are worth it. There are some new hoods out that let you grind, cut, and weld. The one I saw you had to push a button for each one.

I'll second that on the Speedglass hood. I bought the one that can also be used for TIG. A little bit more cost, but well worth it. I had to replace the plastic on the outside of the lens, because of some over head welding. The replacement lenses come in a pack with batteries too. Very good buy.

I believe you get what you pay for with the auto helmets. . My boss gave me a cheapo solar - powered one , and it only took me a few hours to develope A splitting headache. . So now I only use my TigerHood ... I love it , it has manual modes also...
