2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission "Auto Down" power window switch, will it work on the PS also?

Pretty much as the question stated. I'm tired of using the switches anyway. The one on the DS doesn't do much good when the other one has to be held down. Granted I could look, I just haven't had much time to tear apart the door yet. I was wondering if anybody has thought of this or tried it. I'm only thinking about on the DS, replacing the normal PS window switch with another DS window switch.

Corey I have been wondering the same thing myself recently.

Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing, you mean you want to have an auto down switch on the driver side door for the passenger window ??



I did a search on "window auto down switch", there was a little info but no conclusive anwere on whether it is possibe. I seem to remember someone saying that the switch assembly is all one piece for the driver side window switches. So that may rule out replacing the passenger switch on the driver door if that was correct. But I wonder if you could use a jumper though ??



Maybe someone who has modded theirs to have the passenger window auto down will give us some info.

If you pull the switch out (if its the same as my 94) yes, its one big assembly, BUT, you can remove the individual switches, and replace just the one thats broke/... I just don't want to have to buy the entire assembly...

Sorry, one of Dodge's "improvements" was to make it all one switch. But, you might be able to rig up something with a momentary contact switch somewher else. All it does it energise a solenoid (I think) that gets overloaded and kicked out after the window reaches home.

I am watching this too. What about a one touch switch for the passenger side door also, not just from the driver side control.

Well ok, how about using the switches from a ??94?? which was what my other application was. I don't think the switches were all THAT different. I have a friend with a 97 and I'll see what we can figure out the difference. I don't see him all that often, so I'll let ya'all know what I find out!



Oh, I also think I still have a old switch out of my 94 that I had to replace. It was off the PS door, so its not the switch I want.



If its the solenoid setup, we would need a 2nd setup for that door... Either that or just "accidently" pour some coke or something into the switch, and it should stick

someone needs to look at a wirering diagram my mustang cobra has a relay in the drivers side window harness and you can wire one into the p/s as well also one person had to much time on his hands had power down and up all four windows i will see if i can find the info and a part number for the relay ... OK this site has the best diagram i could find it is mustang specific but any one with a manuel for your truck can figure out how to cross it over you should be able to get the modules at any auto part store or a good bone yard good luck... george

I did find my old switch from the PS of my 94, and although I couldn't get my existing switch plate out of the 02 (is there a trick to it? my 94 just pulled out) the switches look 95% identical. The only difference was the 02 has the little light on the top so they illuminate, vs. the 94 which didn't.

To get the switch bezel out, remove the door pull "cup" and push forward on the spring clips. Pivot the rear up and slide rearward to get it out. My '94 must have tight panels because I still have to do this.



You can install the newer switches in the older trucks. You will need to do some wiring as the connectors are different and you'll need to run a wire for the light in the switches. I was considering it but I didn't think it was worth it to me to do it all after looking at the work involved.

From the 99 service manual page 8S-3:

The auto down feature of the driver side power window switch is controlled by an electronic circuit within the switch unit. The auto down circuitry is activated when the driver side power window switch is moved to the second detent in the down direction. The outputs from the auto down circuitry are carried through the same switch pins that provide the normal down function. The auto down circuit cannot be tested. If the driver side power window switch continuity tests are passed, but the auto down feature is inoperative, replace the faulty driver side power switch unit.



Sounds like there are no relays and it may be possible to combine two driver side switch units and get what you want without rewiring anything.

I called a dealership parts counter the other day ( I can tell you this guy was not an expert ) just to see what DC offered in replacement switches for 2nd Gen trucks. He said his book offered a double and a single gang switch. So, the double gang would be for the driver side door and the single for the passenger side door. From what jrobinson2 says, if the double gang can be physically seperated in to two switches it should be an easy modification to get auto down for passenger window on driver side switches.



Does anyone know if you can seperate the driver side window switches ??

No dice gentlemen...



I got the switch gang out, its one piece. BUT, I went deeper. I pulled the cover off, seperated the back and the inner cover and pulled out the circuit card. Its all completely integrated. I tried to see if I could jump the wires on to the passanger side to determine if there were any relays elseware, but wasn'table to. I didn't want to take too big of a chance and melt it all down.



I'll post the pictures tonight. Its way too beautiful out to be sitting in here behind the computer!

Who ever wants a one touch window up and down for both sides, you need to find a stereo shop who installs alarms and ask for a window roll up module. I have my windows on a one touch up and down and when i arm my alarm and the windows are down they roll up automatically. never have to worry about windows being left down
