I have recently had difficulty finding D and 2 when manually shifting my 47RE auto trans. I thought it might be the PRND21 indicator needing adjustment, but that didn't fix it. I got under the truck while my wife shifted the lever through all 6 positions, and found that the lever on the side of the transmission never clicked into first gear. The front shift rod, which drops from the steering column under the hood, has an adjusting swivel with a lock bolt, with a spring above. This is reached from under the truck. I released the lock bolt, slid the adjusting swivel up about 1/8th inch, and re-tightened the lock bolt. The gears now shift correctly. I mention this as the Service Manual, page 21-185, states that this adjustment is only required if the engine starts in only one of P and D, but my experience is different. A search of the forum didn't find any previous mention of this, so I'm posting it in case anyone else out there has a similar problem. Nick.
