I am not sure where to post this but here goes. I just got my insurance bill for my 2001 Dodge 3500 Pickup, and all I could say was holy s$@t, the bill for 2003 is over $1500 !!! Is anyone else seeing this kind of a insurance bill for their truck ? Geez for that kind of money I could drive a Viper. So does anyone have suggestions where to get better rates ? or is that the normal cost of insurance for a newer Dodge truck nowadays ?

Here is the specs

2001 3500, Cummins, Quad Cab, 4X4, Leather etc.

Business use, 40000 driven

100K/300K

250 Broad ded.

towing/rental

Last ticket 1985(not counting parking tickets ;) )

no at fault accidents since 1988

So is there an insurance company out there that might have reasonable rates ?

I can't say as I really like them (not sure I like any of them) but every time I have shopped around nobody has been able to beat or even match my rate with State Farm. My last bill was 425 for six months. No tickets/accidents or claims in 10+ years. That is full coverage w/towing and 500 ded, also have homeowners with them and another vehicle. Don't know where you live but I did live in dowtown Denver and last year moved to extreme south end of town (20 miles) and just because of the move my insurance went down 200 year. Something to do with a lower loss rate in that area.

Crewcab;

it could be the -business- and high mileage that you list. what is the towing and rental? these guys want you to buy, but leave it in the garage under lock and key. your metropolitan area where you are located could influence it to.

just my penny's worth.

The rates are based on poupulation. I used to live in Englewood. If I had gotten an apartment 2 blocks farther south (the other side of Hampden), my rates would have dropped $100 every 6 months. They draw their own lines, not cities or townships.

CrewCabDiesel - I have to agree though. State Farm is cheaper, and gets cheaper the longer you're with them. My 02 3500HO ST 4x4 is somwhere in the vicinity of $800 a year. What gets me is that the full coverage for the truck is $15 a month CHEAPER than the 'ol lady's '94 mustang convertible - same coverage.

My insurance company said, "no problem, you just have the little six-banger". :D I've heard that it is the V10 that really bumps up the premiums. Now if I can just do something about the weight fees!

I live in the foot hills of CA and I have a 96 3500 slt 4wd with a flat bed. Flat bed and business use = CA #'s. When you have CA#'s you are required to have a $750,000 CSL policy. my policy runs abou $1100,00 a year. 1500 a year is rediculous

Not sure what truck only is, but with my 98 Bonneville my rate for both is maybe $1100/yr with Progressive. My homes are with State Farm, but they couldn't come close. Ins companies look at locations differently. I know one company had me in the Detroit Metro rate even though I was over an hour away from there. (I was sort of close to Toledo though. )

My 17 year old son started driving this year. Naturally when we added him to the insurance policy they put him on the most valuable piece in the driveway, my truck. I have my truck with Commerce Ins. with full coverages and 250/500 limits. Last year the bill was around $1100. With junior on the road it went up to $2700. What a bummer. No extra money for bombing!

I can gloat on this one.

I have my 3500 on my farm policy. My agent knows I use it for commuting and pulling, etc. , but it is accepted use. How about <275/year for 500K+ coverage? Wish I could put the wife's Explorer on.

A farm policy always is a good break. If you have a kid that is getting there liscense buy a $ 200 chevette and liscense insure, and register it then park it behind the house in an inconspicuous area, and list that vehicle as the vehicle tha kid drives. That is what my dad did with me. The chevette will pay for itself several times over.

Wow you got a deal ;)

When I bought my truck at 19, I took out my own insurance policy with Commerce and I was paying 2800 a year at similar coverage. . with a clean driving record! I guess I have the state of Mass to thank for that though since it is all regulated.

3 years later and it is down to 1870 a year. Still a pretty penny to shell out, especially for one vehicle... even if it is the size of 3.

When first bought my CTD over a year ago I called my insurance agent to get a quote (after I bought it  ). She quoted me their lowest price without all the good driver and safety points the wife and I had earned. It was $1100 a year  ! I though no problem when they figure in the discounts it should be in the ballpark of $800. When I got my premium in the mail it was still $1100 a year. When I called her and started ranting (told her it was a 6cyl diesel not a Corvette :D ) and she told me that the rate was based on the value code of the vehical. On the next renewal premium my rates dropped to $800 and some change a year :D :D . Go figure! Sixpack

BTW... full coverage with towing and $500 deductiable

I'm paying a little over $800 a year for my 2500. I have full coverage, and I am also with State Farm. No accidents or tickets for many, many years. My Ford 2-ton farm truck is also insured with State Farm, in S. W. Missouri, and I'm paying... a whopping $36. 00 a year for adequate coverage on it!!

Well I'm over here in NY and have Allstate:eek: My previous truck was a 98. 5 Dodge Diesel and cost me $1200 a year for the $300/$500 commercial coverage. So I didn't think twice when I upgraded to my 01. 5 since it was the same exact truck just newer. Well think again:confused: My current bill is $1850 a year for that same coverage? with a clean record:{ Go figure!!

the insurance on my 01 3500 went up too but my 2500 stayed the same. their reason stated on my policy is,, rating symbol increase under ERIE'S CAR EXPERIENCE RATING (CER) PLAN due to adverse physical damage experience for your model vehicle:confused: it also says i have the right to protest to the insurance commissioner. mine went up $50. a year,,now $620.

I also use State Farm, I pay $430 every 6 months on my '97 2500. I'm still paying off the loan and have full coverage.

Try the auto club.......

If your driving record is clean they can't be beat. At least in SoCal.

3 vehicles 2000 Durango, 2001 Ram 3500 and 2002 Ram 2500.

Full coverage on all at 100/300/50

$1900 total for all three. That's after the $155 worth of discounts, Homeowners, Multi vehicle etc.

You do have to be a member though, so thats an extra $40 a year but you do get the benefits from that too.

My Dad even had a better idea. When I was old enough to drive, I could as soon as I bought my own car and paid for my own insurance. I figured out how to get that done by the time I was 17. Guess what, I been figuring out how to get stuff done ever since. Editorial comment coming - The problem with our young is the parents doing everything for them :( The sooner they learn to stand on there own two feet the better.

Pit Bull, I agree completely with your comment.

My wife handles the insurance and I ask her and she says your price is about right for a commercial vehicle, of course some areas are a lot higher than others. I have about the same coverage as you and drive the same miles on a 2002 business truck and pay more than you. My wife the Ultimate Insurance Expert, says to call around for quotes, but you probably can't beat your current one. We have quotes from everyone west of the Mississippi. They cream you on a business truck, everyone thinks they can sue a business for a little fender bender in the Wally World parking lot and become a millionare! JTMcC.

Just got off of Progressive's web site and for grins had them do a quote. I had them quote my 2001 2500 CTD 4x4 and my wifes 2001 Honda CRV. Had them set all of the coverage at the highests limits and even told them about my on work, but not countable accident 3 years ago ( police on the job dont have accidents counted against them in MI). They quoted a price of $925 for both vehs for 6 months=$1850 for 1 year both vehs.

I currently have Michigan Educational Employees Mutal Insurance Co. for my insurance ( wife is a teacher) and we pay for both vehs at highest coverage about $1600 a year. SO there are better deals out there if you look. I have also found that if you express interest to your agent that u may want to look around for better deals that they will usually work with you especialy if you have been with them for a while.

just FYI
