If you have ever been in the military, or are a dependant of someone who is, try USAA.

I live in Orange County where the population is obviously high, and with USAA I pay $1700 per year for my truck, our caravan, 5th wheel, and motorcycle, and that is with high coverage including towing/assistance. Of course I only drive 15k per year and don't use the truck for work.

My Dad even had a better idea. When I was old enough to drive, I could as soon as I bought my own car and paid for my own insurance. I figured out how to get that done by the time I was 17. Guess what, I been figuring out how to get stuff done ever since. Editorial comment coming - The problem with our young is the parents doing everything for them :( The sooner they learn to stand on there own two feet the better.

Pit Bull,

I agree, doing things yourself is the best, my Dad did the same. . I bought the Cummins, my own insurance, moved away from home and couldn't have been happier. Although you may get a break if you have one policy. The only time having my own policy has hurt me, is not being able to drive the parents vehicles when living at home. Makes running out to get that one part you forgot while working on the rig a real drag  (It is illegal to drive w/o insurance in the peoples republic of Massachusetts)

:D You guys just made my day, $648. 00 per year with full coverage and an accident in 6/16/2002, last speeding ticket in 98.

$500 deductable, 100,000/300,000/100,000 coverage. :D

My reason for the earlier was to show how the screw young people over. When I was 17 I bought my own truck with my own money, and paid cash for it from money I maid in my own business. (probably very few people on this board could pay cash for a 3 year old vehicle when they were sixteen. )I looked into getting my own policy, but for somenoe 16 years old, and on my vehicle it would have cost arond $300 per month. So I put it on our farm policy in my dads name, and guess what full coverage costs $ 185 every six months. also buy putting the truck in his name he was able to write it off as a business expense, so when it was all figured my father made money, when I bought my truck. How many of your kids have every made you 4 or 5 thousand dollars? Dont start criticising someone before you know the whole story.

I paid cash for my '90 Grand Marquis,, not much, paid $1,600 + $160 taxes.

For Liability only I pay $600 every 6 months. Maybe that's why it's sitting at a mechanic shop, uninsured at the momet?

My truck is over $2K year with $1M umbrella coverage.

Life goes on,, the end of this year I'll turn 21, hopefully I'll get cheaper rates then...

You guys are going to hate me. Females pay lower rates than males. The records support this- we cost less in accidents, so we are cheaper to insure. I'm paying about $450 per year to insure my truck.

MCummings

Hate to tell you this, but your rates won't go down until you hit 25.

Example: 1985 - an '85 F250 supercab with the 6. 9 diesel. Paid about $750 every six months. November of that year I turned 25 and it dropped to about $250 every six months. :)

Granted, that was almost 20 years ago.

Got a quote from Farm Bureau on the one I have on order - $720 every six months. :--) Only one ticket in the past 5 years.

Going to talk to my State Farm guy this Friday to see what he can do.

I think if you will reread my earlier post "YOU" were never criticized.

I may not have been critcised, but blanket statements about the younger generation have always kind of struck me . You are right there are a lot of younger people that have everything given to them, but there are a few who have earned there own way.

Pit bull,

Your right, I had to think long and hard before posting because I didn't want the rif raf to catch on. Reminds me of the time I went to the black hills on a seminar to buy time share in camp grounds and the lady and me got into a discussion about how these type of things are destroying my way of camping at lower rates in ND, she replied "well what does ND have to offer", My response, "never mind", I figured ND was better off nobody knowing. ;)

Ron

P. S. don't tell anyone.

fbaurley, young people are not "screwed over" by insurance companies as you say, all the ins. co. cares about are statistics for your group, be it age related or otherwise, your age group, has a larger percentage of crashes than 35 year olds, hence, you pay more, this applied to me, to my parents, to their parents, and will apply to your kids, that's the way it is. As far as you being critisized, the critisizism is toward your Dad, who if he is doing what you say he is, is commiting felonies to decrease your insurance, and increase his deductions. I disagree with both, as does the law, and so do most folks that raise their kids to be tax paying, law abiding citizens. JTMcC.

insurance.......

getting ready to pay mine with state farm. $295. 16 for 6 months.

i get $90. 71 off for multi-car.

can't complain with full coverage. 100 buck deductible.

Auto Club here, about $720. 00 a year for full coverage on the truck and liability only on my 92' Mazda. Multi vehicle and multi policy discounts though. Been pretty happy to this point but nver had to make a claim :D No other company has come close including State Farm and Farmers.

Scott

state farm terrible on claims

Have you ever experienced dealing with the claims on State Farm and the farmers one (whatever it's called)?? Those are horrible people to deal with. I like AAA insurance. (the auto club)

By the way, those are horrible rates, have you checked around? I'm only paying 780/yr on a 2002 bmw 330 CI ($45. 0000 auto retail) with a worse driving record (2 speeding in 2000/ no accidents)

Insurance rates

CREWCABDIESEL: Don't know who you P*ssed off, but my 2002 Q cab , fully insured, is only 700. 00 a year with GEICO. The truck is a second vehicle , so maybe there's a break for the second one. Give them a call, can't hurt. :)

Got quoted through my insurance man on a 98 4x4 quad diesel last year, it was $731 every 6 months till I was 25 yrs old. I decided that I wanted a truck now so I purchased the one in my sig. Go to get insurance $712 every 6 months! WTF, I sat down and asked what was going on, he told me that just the difference between 3 months starting last yr, that my age group experienced a $80 rate increase. I was not and am not happy about this. He said if rates dont change after I am 25 price drops $190, now if I can just wait one year. Then also go down after 30.

State farm customer for all my vehicles.

Friend has a 02 PSD and pays $70 more then I do, he also has State farm, WTF ????????/

Not sure if it all the really expensive cars, or the body shops over charging insurance claims that is affecting us all.
