i have a auto meter trany temp gauge and would like to complete the install on it, but my auto transmission doest have any spot to put the sender unit. does any one know of anything i can do with out tapping into the transmission pan?

You can get from either DTT or ATS a replacement line that has the port already in the line. Or you could get the same tube from Dodge and weld in the port yourself.

I have seen large brass T's used but they always have weeped a little. If then you install a valve body in the transmission which will up the line pressure. . the weep turns into a leak...

Go to your local Dodge Dealer & you can buy the above mentioned line. I bought mine at Dwayne Lane Dodge in Everett, WA. for about $100. No welding required either, it comes with the port for the sender to go into. Worth every penny! Good Luck.

lorlando,

The dealership tech put mine on a port on the pass side of the transmission, where there's a fitting above the right rear corner bolt of the transmission pan, about an inch and a half above the pan.

How does your guage function in that port? I know two others that installed their probes in those test ports & they're guages barely ever rose above 100 degrees even while towing. I've been told the best location is on the line going to the heat exchanger or the alternate location would be the transmission pan.

Just my 0. 02.

If I remember correctly. . the pipe that we are talking about is the hot pipe that goes to the heat exchanger. I am not sure the ports on the passanger side would give you 'hot' temps. I need to check with Advantage Dodge in N. M. to see what the internet price on the pipe would be.

I have gotten parts from them so much cheaper than my local dealer... .

Clay, it works well. When I'm towing or in heavy traffic, the temp rises accordingly. I was told that the readings in that retrun line are always way higher because it's reading the temp of the fluid returning from the converter to the cooler. The pan location or where mines at tells you the temp inside the transmission itself. I'm transmission illiterate, so I just went with what I was told by a transmission shop who I consider trustworthy.

Craig,

The reason I ask is my brother & my brother in law said that while in fluid coupling they have never seen temps much over 100 degrees. After installing the trans line with the port, the temps seem more realistic. Kind of scary actually.

While backing up my 5vr, I have seen 220 degrees but while cruising down the freeway in lock-up it stays around 100 degrees. My thought was I want to know what my HOT temperatures are period... .

I just went with what was suggested on TDR by fellow members & by Bill Kondolay of DTT.

I guess it's a matter of preference.

drain plug

intall a B&M drain plug, and use the plug hole for the sensor. be sure to specify a 1/8"x27 npt sensor.

drain plug is handy on trans pan.

about $10 at genos.

Part #

Anybody have a part # for the factory hose with the port?

Don't recall the part # but if you call a DC dealership they will know. It seems to me it was a standard item for like a 1996 RAM.
