My sending unit went south and I called Auto Meter to get another one. They told me it would be $99 with shipping!! I know I can get another one somewhere else for alot less. I know Briar Hopper got his at CarParts.com but I couldn't find a fuel sender. Can I use a different type of sender? I can not remember the # of the unit but I can tell you when I get home from work. . Anybody?

B. J. Deal

Hey B. J. have you tried Summit for the sender? If you have the part number I am sure they can beat the price from Autometer. When you go through Autometer you get list price as they cannot sell to the public under list so they don't get their dealers mad at them :{

B. J. , sorry to hear it went out on you... this last one I got from CarParts.com(thanks to Traded V-10 for a Cummins recommendation and coupon) has lasted me a long time... still going.

I can't believe AutoMeter failed to back up their product, how long has it been since you purchased it? You shouldn't have to BUY another one. They were good to me about getting mine replaced.

We've seen enough failures of these units among TDR members, that we know something's up, and they need to do the right thing and give you an upgraded replacement.

I'd try calling them again, maybe you'll get someone more helpful if you persist...

Dave. .

I can't find a fuel sender replacement. Everything seems to be either oil or temp. They all are around $15 or $20.

Briar. .

I bought this used from someone here on TDR. He said he had it for about 5 months and sold it to me. I ran it for about 5 months when it went out on me. I have it connected to the inlet of the VP44 and since I did that it vibrated on the gauge even with the 20 inch grease gun hose. I was going to move it and when I got in the truck to drive it to the shop to change it, it was dead.

What did you pay for yours from carparts?

I will try to call again to A. Meter and talk a little more firmer. . They are not that far away from me, I could go tell them a little piece of my mind to their face maybe??

Talked to Auto Meter last weeked at Indianapolis at a BIG trade show. They told me that I don't even have to send the old one back. I cn just call them and they will send me a new one, free of charge. So anyone else that has this problem, I have the guys name and Bus, card so I can contact... . I had to laugh when he asked me if I was a member of TDR. I think he wanted to take care of me. Oo.
