Got a question for some of the auto guys... My 96 shifts way too quick thru the gears, to 3rd, while driving. I`ll just be going down a flat straight road, and the transmission will shift into 3rd before I even get to 20mph. Sometimes even before that. And city driving, if I go up a hill, it wont shift down to 2nd, etc unless i stomp on it. My dad sez its a problem with the early 47re's when running empty, but I've had over 1300lbs of junk in the back, and it does it still somewhat. . Not the same as empty, but it doesnt shift at all like his '99.

I think i may need to schedule a reflash at the dealer, but i`m kinda wary about going there because of a bad experience before. . theyre real good at screwin things up. I`ve checked my TV cable, looks ok, mebe need to adjust it a bit, but I havent figgered that out yet heh. .

leme know what yinz think

My 96 done the same thing until i had LsFarm take a look at it. He adjusted something underneath the truck on the trans (hopefully he'll chime in here) and that made it alot better. Mine would jump into 3rd at about 15 MPH (i do have 4:10's also). Greg (LsFarm) also said the same thing as your dad. Stockers are a PITA the get to shift right... ... i would love mine to shift around 2200 with light to moderate throttle. Also when mine shifts it's a freakin slush-box, but i now always manually shift, right around 2200 light to moderate throttle, and while manually shifting it has a nice solid shift.

I guess without knowing any better, i would say to just save up for the trans of your choice. My choice [was] ATS (very nice unit, and put one in dads truck), but i will definately have Greg rebuild mine with the nice parts from DTT (like to know who is building a major part for my truck, like the trans)

This probably doesn't help you any, but i can certainly relate to your troubles. I often tow heavy and a slush box, and an even worse converter is no fun... . at all.

Thanks Curtis. . I`m kinda leanin towards the TV cable, but I`m unsure of the adjustment. Ive checked my service manual, but its kinda vague about the adjustment process... Checked the cable head at the throttle linkage, and I cant get the adjustment button to move. . mebe I`m doin it wrong. . hm duno. If LsFarm doesnt see this post, I think I`ll send him a PM on what he did to make it shift better. .

tnx

The TV cable adjusting button is on the back side of the assembly. It is hard to move but you press it toward you to loosen the cable. I use a pair of smooth jaw pliers. Joe G. uses a small "c" clamp to compress it which would probably be best since you can let go of it while adjusting the cable.

Be careful with the fitting on the end of the cable. It is plastic and I know it will break.

You don't need to take it off of the pin. Just move the cable assembly until the cable end is just loose on the pin. Take the clamp off and see how it shifts. If it still gives you trouble, check the throttle cable adjustment.

If your throttle cable was replaced under the recall, it could have been improperly set up at that time.

I don't know if a re-flash would help your 47re or not. With the 47rh, the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts are controlled by the tv cable and the hydraulics of the valve body. The PCM and TPS get into the act when shifting into OD and TC lockup. That is where mine is causing me grief.

Thanks LsFarm for the adjustment instructions. Worked great.

Howard: I tried the method you described, used a pair of channel locks, and could not feasibly move the 'button' (couldnt actually see a button segmented from the assembly, so I dunno Might be a 47rh thing). I put as much strain on the plastic as I thought it would handle, and the button thing didnt do anything. LsFarm described another method on the transmission side to adjust, and man did it make a difference. . woooooo... I think I`m still going to give the dealer a call about a shift-point reflash. .

thanks all

On my 95 the button on the rear (toward the engine) does not go in that is a cavity for the other side to go in. its a bit hard to see but the flat on the out side is what goes in.

Oh and lengthen the cable housing for later shifts
