Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out what I want to do.

Auto Start would be great to fire up the truck in the AM. To set the turbo timer, it seems that it's a PITA, where you need to push a combo of buttons before you turn the key off.

Are there any auto starts that will say running for let's say 1 min after I turn the key off??

The turbo timer I'm looking at will (SP Diesel), though I don't have the auto start feature... . and I'm guessing I couldn't use both at the same time?

I just find myself shutting the truck off before it's cooled down when I'm in a hurry, and I don't like doing that. It would be nice to get somewhere and turn the key off instead of sitting in the truck for a bit.

Code Alarm has both auto start and turbo timer. I think timer is 2 minutes. Model # CA 670. Don't know web address but search for it. I just put one in my '95. Replaced an auto start that didn't have turbo timer. To turn on turbo timer you just set the parking brake and turn the truck off or else put in a toggle switch to ground. The remote is also 2 way with a little picture of a vehicle and all the bells and whistles. Mine works good but was hard to install because it was so complicated. If you have never put one in and don't know anything about alarms I would recommend getting it installed.

on my viper all I have to do is push the "aux" and "start" buttons at the same time then turn the key off. then the engine will run for 1-5 minutes. depending on what the box is set to do. its real easy. like was already mentioned, not having to go out and start the truck to run the air is awesome.

I have the compustar remote start w/ shut down timer. I really like it, is has a 30 seconds delay before starting which I found is good down 5 degrees in the winter. Also as soon as you hit the start button it will run as long as you want. The shut down timer is set at 3 minutes, to activate all you have to do is engage the emergency brake and take the key out.

my viper is hooked to the wait to start light also. so it wont start the truck until the light shuts off.

i agree with all the above, it is very nice to have, i have a clifford RSX system by the way. as far as pushing a bunch of buttons, you only push the AUX and START simultaneously and it does its thing, after you have had it for a while it is amazing at how automatic it is. love mine

My compustar system is set up like this:

1. with truck running... . open door, apply e-brake... turn off key and remove... will run for 2 minutes

2. with truck running, press start button for @5sec (solanoid in dash will click) remove key and exit truck... . truck will continue to run until pressing the start button again

to start, press start button,it will start when grid light goes out

pushing a combination of two buttons will make it do different things such as go to valet mode etc.

I like the range of this system along with the penetration abilitys. I have started my truck at over 200 yards distance and also started it before leaving movie theater building when about 100 yards away

What about the sentry key?

Does it still function, or do you loose it? I really want the cooldown, start and extended run.

I know that there are loops that bypass the sentry key, but does it totally disable the sentry key feature? I don't want to lose the sentry key protection if I can help it.

they use what they call a key wrap, its a blank coded key in a wrap that reads the key, so the key wont work and it hidden. works well.

Thanks for the info. So from what ya'll are saying, my understanding is that the hidden setry key blank is only read when the remote/alarm tells it to be read, otherwise the sentry key in the ignition fuctions as it normally would, as in detering start-up/theft. Sorry if I'm being dense here, just want to make sure that I understand correctly.

I don't know what this sentry key thing is. I don't think my truck has that... Hell i don't even need a key.

Going back to the topic, are there any auto starts that will just let the truck run when I turn the key off like a turbo timer would?

Another vote for the Viper System

I have been a happy Viper owner for over 2 years. Make sure you use a qualified shop to do the install as these systems are not made for the backyard mechanic. The range of the remote is just fantastic. If my alarm goes off I want to know about it even if I am setting in my motel room 200 yards and three floors away. The remote start and turbo cool down are just the frosting on the cake.

yes, with the viper you just have to push two buttons and then remove the key. very easy.
