 Has anyone ever had this problem before? My trans is starting off in 2nd gear when I don't come to a complete stop. When it does start in 1st, it shifts into 2nd to early. I can only tow if I shift the trans manually or it will shift way to early. All linkages and the TV cable have been checked and rechecked for proper adjustment.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

RK,

There are two pieces on the valve body, the governor pressure solenoid and transducer. If you can change the fluid and filter on the trans, you can change these parts also. There are several threads on this topic you might search through. One part is a little over $100 and the other is about $60 from a dealer, i think. You could pay to have it tested to see which one is defective, but you will spend the same money if you just replace both of them. Here is one thread on the subject, https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112839

When the transmission was rebuilt, were the items Dbraunig referred to replaced? usually they are.

I would recommend to doublecheck your TV cable play. This will cause a lack of downshifting easily. Will 1st work directly after startup and a shift into D, or does it never come in?

Try unclipping the blue snap clip on the TV cable from your throttle assembly, and see what the unsprung measurement on the clip is, compared to the actual lug on the throttle assembly. You should have no more than 1/4" play between the clip and the lug.

good luck...

That fixed my stocker. The 2 parts were both ~$100 from my dealer.

Thanks for the input, it is greatly appreciated. If possable, could someone explain just how thw 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift sequence works and what causes them to take place? Basicly, I want to no if I should be looking for hydrolic valve body problems or electrical issues. I was under the impresion that 1st through 3rd were controled soley be hydrolic preasure. Any insite would be appreciated greatly. Thanks again,. Rich

RK,

Are we talking about an RE or and RH transmission? your sig shows a 96 auto 4x4, i am pretty sure that is an RE trans. All shifts in the RE are electronically governed. If this in an RH trans 1-3 are mechanically governed. you may have a problem with the mechanical governor/valves/tubes in the bottom of the overdrive unit if it is an RH trans.
