I'm begininng the process to convert my truck from an auto to a 6spd. So far, I have most of the information I need as to what parts to get. However, I'm still unsure with the small parts.

If anyone can help, please do :D

Will my starter work? I understand it will but I need a spacer and bolts. Does anyone know part numbers?

Is there any kind of sheet metal "hump" that I need to install for the shifter to attach to?

ECm and PCM, which do I need to get reflashed?

Exhaust brake, can I leave mine actuated off the go pedal or do I need to connect to the pcm or ecm after I get it reflashed.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

George

Well I just installed a Banks brake and it had two connections for the clutch switch, which I did not need to hook up with my auto.

"Step 18. If your vehicle is a manual trannsmission and equipped with cruise control, continue to feed the harness through until the convolute containing two brown wires are throught the firewall. Locate and cut the white wire with a pink tracer located in the vehicle harness bundle shown in figure 6. "

You then install connectors and hook up the brown wires. Fig 6 shows three connectors on the drivers side of the engine compartment on the firewall. Location may vary.

There are no starter mods needed... . bolts or spacers! You can leave the ECM/PCM alone also, but you will lose the cruise control. ;)

Thanks for your reply guys.

So... ... ... BWillard, did you do this conversion yourself, or did you have someone do it for you? I have a buddy of mine at a local Dodge dealer sourcing all the parts. I've also checked Blumenthals, and spoke w/ Don over there and Peter @ Southbend. So I know most of what is going to be need.

3 specific quesions for you:

- does a new trans come with a clutch fork?

- will I need any special adapters for either enigne to trans or trans to cross-member?

- if you did this yourself, about how long did it take

TIA

George

I did it all myself..... except for lifting the transmission up in. At over 300lbs. invite a friend or two over ;) I kinda doubt that the fork comes with the transmission, but I used one from an NV4500. You don't need any adapters for the engine, unbolt the auto and bolt the 6 speed right up. If your truck is an '01 you have the right crossmember too! The holes are already in the frame to move the crossmember forward, and I believe you use the back set of holes on the center of the crossmember for the 6 speed rubber mount. If this isn't correct you will see when you line the crossmember up to the transmission. The complete swap took me a week of evenings to finish. I'm not sure of the total hours.

Check your PM's

Does anyone have any more info on doing this? I am very interested in doing the same thing to my 2002. I would like everything to work and look factory.

thanks

Bill

I'm almost finished with this project.

There is a very long list of parts. However, I have kept all the part numbers from the dealer. This will help you out a lot.

I will post more within the next week or so.
