Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) auto to a manuel what do I do?

I have a friend who has a 2001 and his automatic is on the way out. He wants to change to a nv4500 or a nv5600. What all does he have to do to make that conversion and is there any computer stuff???? Does anyone make a conversion kit or should he just go to a junk yard and buy a transmission from them? can anyone drop some help or want to trade for an auto on the way out and all the components needed. What should he do? He lives in NorCal. thanks
