I am considering swapping out the automatic transmission in my '94 4WD single cab for a manual. I remember one post that suggested buying a same year parts donor truck to swap all the necessary parts for a 5 speed. I think this sounds like a good way to get all the "little parts" necessary. However I am wondering if anyone has done a conversion to the newer six speed NV 5600 transmission and if so, how it went, was it worth it (over the NV 4500) and any other comments I haven't presented, both on the conversion in general and on the six speed. After driving a 24 valve with the six speed, I like the gear spacing that the six speed offers. Thanks in advance.

P. S. - if anyone has had a shop do the conversion for them, how did it go, what was the approx. cost, would you do it again if given the choice, etc.

I don't know if Jim Leonard is still working on trucks, but he did that conversion to his. 530-938-3427. Last I heard, Jim is in the Mt. Shasta area. :)

Thanks a lot for the quick resposes guys. I appreciate the help and I'll be contacting the sources you gave me soon for further help.

I remember reading about it in one of our magazines but can't remember which one. Glad you found out what you needed. Good luck.
