How do you guys get the cruise controll to work without the TPS the autos have?. . I have a truck with the auto to manual change but the cruise relys on the TPS (according to the guy that did the exchange)and it's not working very smoothly. . anybody know if there's something I can do to omit the TPS and get the cruise working right?... . Thanks in advance

I didn't know the TPS does anything for the cruise. The older trucks like my 90 w/auto have the option for TPS and there is no TPS. The manual equipped trucks have cruise and no TPS.

I'd say your problem is somewhere else.

Check your Speed Sensor adjustments- if it isnt getting a good signal, the cruise wont work. Make sure the female ends of the plug are round ,and free of dirt, oil, etc. ALso check the wiring along the line.

If that dont work... .

Check your servo cable adjustment, though I dont see why the guy would have had to do anything with it. Some people just dont know as much as we (TDR) know- he claiming it is the TPS, et al. The cable should be snug. Take out the retaining clip (dont lose it, it is only sold as part of the cruise control cable assembly- dont ask), and pull the cable back til all the slack is out of the cable/ throttle linkage assembly. Put the clip in. If it falls between 2 detents, put it in the looser one.

Thanks,

I'm going to look into it today. . I thought the TPS was for auto-overdrive only. It'll be good to get rid of the TPS stuff. I'll save it for my 93 auto. .

I found a section in the manual to do some tests on the servo and speed sensor which I'll look into today. . Thanks again!,

OK,

here's what I did. . I cleaned the speedo (wire) connections at the transmission then the connections at the speed controller. then dissconnected the TPS. . got on the freeway and when you engage the cruise it kicks in but keeps increasing speed as if you were pressing the "accelerate" button on the wheel. . pulled over and reconnected the TPS and now the cruise works fine. . Odd?... . I fixed the earier surge prob by cleaning a few contacts but I was hoping to take out the TPS... . maybe I should check the ground to the controller first or am I stuck with the TPS?... ...

Mom's truck does the cruise surge now and then- she's been up over 80 a time or two. It may be TPS related, though I'd think it shouldnt be. Hmmmm... ... . Durned electronic stuff

Just bringing this back to the top to see if there are any guys that know the wireing differences between the autos and the manuals cruise circuits so I can omit the TPS . Thanks...
