2001.5 auto just got the shudders

EZ and exhaust , need help

I am about to change fluid and filter on my stock 96-3500 transmission. About a month ago I saw a posted link in this forum that showed the two bolts or screws that one,increases pressure and the other increases shift point. I can't find this link to save my life. Also how many quarts will I need to buy if I drain the valve-body(lower it 1/8 inch). Last question, what brand filter and fluid is best. Thanks in advance.

The amount of ATF the thing takes depend a lot on how long it's been setting. The way I do it is to drain it into a five gallon bucket and then measure how much is in the bucket. I put that much new ATF back in and it's just right on the dip stick. I would not advise loosening the valve body unless you have the service manual and an inch-pound torque wrench. If it's not tightened correctly it can warp and cause problems.

The post you are looking for is called "transmission life expectancy" and it was in the 12 valve forum. Don't loosen the valvebody bolts more than three turns or you could have problems. Also when you tighten it back up make sure you don't pinch the wires that run around it or you will have problems for sure. Joe G . is right about the torque wrench, don't even think about loosening the bolts without one. I got about 10. 5 quarts out of mine by loosening the valvebody bolts and draining for about 45 minutes.

Filter change went fine. Did not pull valve-body. Turned pressure screw 3 1/2 rotations c. c. w. Turned shift controll screw 3 rotations c. w. Could not tell any difference. But I hardly ever run over 2000 rpm,anyway. Thanks for the help again.
