pwr2tow,

I don't know where you are getting your information from, and I realy do not care to know! You seem to know so much about the Amsoil Company, even more so than them. I have been involved with this Company for over 25 years, and have NEVER seen a warranty denied by useing any of the Amsoil products!

You state that the oil has to be liscensed (certified) by the API, but my owners manual simply says: QUOTE "Use only oils CONFORMING to API service CI-4. A sulfated ash limit is specified for lubrication oil used in Cummins engines. Oils with a high ash content may produce deposits on valves that can progress to guttering and valve burning. A maximum sulfated ash content of 1. 85 mass % is recommended for all oil used in the engine" END QUOTE.

Yes we could discuss this issue till we are blue in the face, but the FACT remains Amsoil has been doing this for nearly 34 years! Why then are they still in bussiness if they are doing something that is not CONFORMING to the API specifications??

No doubt Amsoil is a quality product. But why incur the high pricing and risk of warranty issues at all. Walmart has Mopar ATF+4,Valvoline ATF+4, and Walmarts Supertech ATF+4(rumored to be Ashland Oil same as Valvoline) all at a cheaper price than Amsoil and all have met Mopar's ATF+4 specification so warranty and quality are not even an issue, and you can change your fluid twice as often at the same cost. It's a no brainer

Amsoilman,

You seem to have an axe to grind or profit to loose if people are told what can and can not happen.

Why then after 34 years do they not API certifiy all their oils?

You have never seen a warranty denied by amsoil, we are talking about manufactures warranty, not amsoil's.

FACT:Using non Certified oil or fluid could void your Warranty.

I like the way you went around to new subscribers asking them if you could sponser them at amsoil and now you get company kick backs from it. Well If you can please delete mine and I'll choose someone else or is this something I have to contact Amsoil for?

You are absolutely correct. But API certification applies only to gasoline engine lubes. It does not apply to diesel engine lubes. Perhaps you should perform a little more research into the American Petroleum Institute's standards and practices. Perhaps then you could phrase your
a little more correctly.

I thinks it's time for all of you to take a chill pill. I don't care who certifies what but this is getting out of control.

I would advise everyone to leave this topic alone unless you have some useful information for RIDGERACING, if not start your own thread or let it be. I think everyone has stated there side of the story. ;)

Thank you,

Now back on topic. I went to the dealer and got my ATF4. Now I have seen it at Wal-mart.

Picked up Valvoline ATF+4 at Kragen for 3. 49/qt.

BTW, anyone using Valvoline DuraBlend 80w90 in their diffs?

... John

How did the Valvoline ATF work?

In our 01. 5 with the Dana 80 rear, with a Detroit locker we just used the Durablend 80w90. Also used it up front with the ARB air locker seems good so far ,only 700 or 800 miles so far.

Haven't used the '+4' yet... am awaiting a trans filter from Geno's.

The DuraBlend is a GL5, so I'll use it for the diffs. Thanks.

Your AAM axles require a full synthetic fluid, they came from the factory with it.

You are absolutely correct. The DuraBlend is not entirely synthetic. Thanks for the heads-up on this. Back to the drawing board :)

Changed mine yesterday for the second time with the Valvoline +4.

Mine came out a little brown and stinky. But I think I've got a little over torqueage problem going on. :-laf

A little slippage when It hits 4th.

Please educate me.

You mean diesel engine oil producers are stealing the API donut?

Do you mean anyone can take any oil and label it diesel engine oil?

So who monitors diesel engine oils?

Even gas engine oil does not need to be API certified. They do it to assure the customer their oils fall within industry standards.

I don't know everything and am willing to learn so the next time my fingers start typing I can be more informed.

I have had a few transmissions apart here, and I have seen the affects of a few lubes. All the trucks I have had apart running regular dino atf had a layer of black sediment all over everthing, and it would wash off slowly in the parts washer. Even on a 2005 with like 30K miles and 3 services. I have yet to see the dino fluid come out of a truck clean and clear/red.

Now, for warranty, on my personal truck I could care less. The truck had over 500hp by 3k miles. I planned on that. I do know that I nuked a billet Suncoast trans with a little help from Bullydog. :-laf When we pulled it apart after about 6500 miles of pretty much nothing but racing and such, including a sled pull at May Madness, no film was left behind, and the fluid was clean and clear/red except for the chunks, obviously. I welded the clutches and steels for first gear together. Fluid wasn't burnt or discolored. Why do I use Amsoil?

As for the argument, well, to each there own.

JW - your gonna love that gear lube!
