My transmission hestitates / surge and shudder between 1st. and 2nd and then again on the downshift around 1500 rpm. When I shift manually there is no problem. I have changed fluid and adj. bands w/ no change. It has done this since I got the truck w/ 60,000 mi. It now has 78,000.

SVincent:

It sounds like your TC is beginning to
show wear. My 96' began doing the same
thing @ 98,000 miles and the "shudder"
only got worse before it started slipping.

I would recommend going into the transmission
now to "at least" have the TC/valve body
replaced. While you are in there you might
as well do all the seals and clutch packs
too. I initally just replaced the TC and
valve body and then 10,000 miles later had
to go back in and do all the seals, clutch
packs etc. Don't make the same mistake I
did!!

Everyone has said that Bill Kondolay's
TC and valve bodies are very good! You
may want to give him a call.

Good luck!

S Vincent,

What John says is right. You might go by NAPA and get a bottle of red LubeGard and try that. It may help some. It sounds like low pressure because of worn out clutches to me. If it's worn out I would advise getting a DTT replacment transmission. That would take care of the whole problem and you would have the best. Call Bill K. and see what he has to say. A great thing about his stuff is that it NOT a one size fits all. He wants to know how you use the truck before he recommends the proper stuff for you.
