ATF in Fuel Filter?

I was hanging out around a Big Rig repair shop recently and saw a guy filling the fuel filter with Automatic Transmission Fluid vs Diesel after changing fuel filters. I ask him why and he replied "Gives the injectors on hell of a spit shine, really cleans them good!"



I thought maybe the guy new what he was talking about cause he really bragged on Stanadyne. Says they use it in all there freight trucks. I know that statement is true. We all know Stanadyne is good stuff.



Any comments? Good/Bad?

to ATF in the VP44! The VP44 is weak enough as it is. Don't give it any reason to crap out any sooner than it already will... .

Adding ATF to diesel is an old practice used in the days when ATF didn't have all the additives it has nowadays and designed for diesel fuel additives weren't widely available. AFT is meant not to burn and will leave ash deposits in your engine. Many old timers are stuck on this practice, don't do it!
