My 99' 2500 has 109,000. Auto Transmission is stuck in 1st gear.

THe fluid is at the proper level, its not burnt, it didnt get hot, and the trans isnt slipping.

Is it a electrical issue or the shift solenoid?

I'd bet it's either the pressure sensor or shift seloniod. Mine was stuck in 2nd, replacing those fixed it. Takes about 5 min longer than a fluid change.

Bullseyejack,

I had the same problem in my 99 2500. My transmission would hold first gear sometimes. I could pull the cables off my batteries for a minute then it would be fine for a few days. My first attempt at a repair was replacing the governor pressure sensor and solenoid along with fluid and filter change but my problem was still present. I then replaced the transmission speed sensor (mopar # 4800879 I think) for about $40 and I have not had a problem for over a year. The sensor is near the back of the transmission on the driver side, have the new one ready before you unscrew the old one and you only lose a little fluid. Try the cheap fix first, I wish I did! Good luck.
