Everything on my 98 12V seems to be fine, except in the last 2-3 weeks something unusual has happened 3 or 4 times.

I normally start the truck in N. , then warm it up for a couple of minutes. Then I drive into town (8-10 miles) and do some errands.

Sometimes, after a quick stop at a stop sign, I hit the accelerator to take off and it acts like it's in neutral. I let off, and do it again, and it takes off and shifts normal.

The truck is basically a stock 90K mi. truck with orig. trans.

The dipstick shows full,(checked in N. on level ground) fluid (Walmart +4) looks and smells fine, I just did an all new fluid(18 quarts) and (Genos) filter change about 3-4K miles ago. Existing fluid was fine, I'm just in the process of R&R all fluids.

When I pulled and cleaned the pan, there wasn't anything unusual in there.

It kind of reminds me of how a trans. would act when it's 2-3 quarts low on fluid, and sucks a little air, with the fluid sloshing forward and exposing the pick-up.

Is this the beginning of the end before a rebuild?

Should I pull the pan again and take a look? Maybe the filter is clogged?

Would a pump going out cause this to happen?

TIA for any advice, Ray

If it's anything like the TF in the old Polara station wagon, the filter prolly isn't clogged. The car would drive and operate just fine. For a while. Then it would go to 'neutral' and stay there. But shutting it down for a few minutes let stuff settle and it would run again for 10-15 minutes. (Turned out the friction material had migrated into the pan and fluid. )

they say your supposed to hold the selecter in each gear while running to really move the fluid around properly during a flush like 30 seconds then go to another position do it several times... doubt it will help but try it and see if maybe you have some air somewhere.
