Hi folks, I have a 2001 with a 47RE Auto Trans. The truck is stock with 125,000 miles. When accellerating, the truck won't shift from 1st to 2nd. If I let off the gas a bit, it will shift to second. I have two questions. 1) Any thoughts on the problem? 2) Anyone have a good experience with a transmission shop in the Las Vegas area? I hate to play yellow page roulette. Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem. Mine stopped shifting to second and would only shift when I left off the pedal. What it turned out to be is that the second gear band had either broke or came loose. The truck was shifting to third when I was letting off the pedal. Long story short I ended up with a rebuild.

Here's your fix!

I just had the exact same thing happen to my truck and of course TDR came to the rescue. I did a search on "transmission problems" and the solution came right up.

The problem is a bad transmission output shaft speed sensor. I could only get it from a Dodge dealer - $28. 00

The sensor screws in at the tail end of the transmission. It will wizz transmission fluid at you when you unscrew it, so have a pan underneath. I screwed the new one in and snugged it down. Problem fixed!

I actually don't think it was a bad sensor. When I took it out, it was covered with a fairly thick coating of metal particles which were magnetically stuck to the sensor. I think the buildup of gunk messed with the sensor's ability to work correctly. I changed it out anyways.

It could also be the gov. pressure solinoid and gov. pressure sensor. Hook the truck up to a scanner and check the output sensor along wiith gov. pressure.
