Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fuel filter drain hose?

I recently installed a Mag-Hytec Double Deep trans pan.

This week I was driving for about 2 hours when I noticed the trans temp was still at 100 degrees. The out sit temp was about 48 degrees and my engine temp was about 170 degrees.

At first I thought my guage or sensor was bad. When I pulled into a rest stop as the truck was idleing down I noticed the temp was up to about 130 degrees. When I let the rest stop the temp started dropping. After about 10 miles it was back down to 100 degrees.

The trip was about 400 miles and the temp only broke 105 if I was in slow traffic (less than 60 mph).

Can anyone shed some light on this?

them numbers are exactly what i was seeing -in the pan. i bought an older model -95? hot line ,the one from transmission to the heat exchange , it has a block with a place to screw in the sender. remove the check ball & spring from this line before you put it on.

I see the same numbers on my 02. In fact I first thought that the sender was broken as I never saw over 110 with the sender installed in the test port. Like you, the only time the temp has gone up to near 130 is when idling in gear for long periods. To challenge my doubt, I simply crawled under the truck and planted my hand on the transmission pan, and sure enough it was a nice hand warmer but not hotter than 100 or so by feel.

I have not towed since I installed the guages either... ... .

CFowler or others...

Could you give me any info on istalling this "hot line" that your talking about. I installed my boost and pyro this evening, but I didn't have time to do the trans temp. I already have the mopar trans line with the temperature sensor port.

What exactly do you mean by remove the check ball and spring? Any other things I should know, or is it as simple as pull the old line out and put the new one in?

Please pardon the simple questions, I'm pretty new at all of this.

Thanks,

Chris

chris sorry for the slow response. if you havent put it on yet, this is what i remember, its simple. r&r the hot line,it is an exact fit. push out the rubber ball&spring from tube. i think you might have to put the test port part in a vise & un screw ths line to see the ball & crap inside. i recall loosing a qt of oil also maybe less. good luck i hope i helped you -carl

I monitor both.........

I have a mag pan (Not DD) and put a second sender in the pan after my fans modifications. I see very little change in my transmission line temps even when cooling the fluids going back to the pan by a few degrees. I can get my trans temps up to 180° on the line side and the pan will be around 100°-110° at the same time.

I thought the fans would help with the overall temps coming out of the tranyy but it hasn't seemed to have any effect. The fans will drop the pan temps a few degrees but not as much as I was hoping for. I doubt I'd spend the money again. But hey since it's in I'm thinking of getting a thermoswitch set for around 160° to turn the fans on automatically and see what that does. I can't always watch the gauges when driving and the LED I have to tell me the fans are on would give me a good indication of how quick the pan temps drop once the fans come on. Any ideas on switches or a good way of having the temp probe and switch on the same line. I doubt a tee would work well as the probe wouldn't be in the stream of fluid as it is now.

I guess I won't panic at the low temps.

I was looking at a friends 95 CTD and I didn't see the block with the port people talk about.

Can anyone tell me how to find it? And which line is the "hot" line?

Thanks

Craig

At 70- 95 degrees outside temp I run 130-145 in the pan on the Interstate at 70 MPH, below 50 degrees my Isspro EV temp never leaves the 100 mark. In town the temps climb to 155- 160 in traffic. I had it at 185 once backing at trailer in to a lot. But I dropped that thing jumped on the interstate and they came back down to 130 quick. I am going to install a hot line sender this winter.

I just installed a DD pan and a '95 line last weekend and put the sender in the line. My ISSPRO gauge starts at 140 and it only goes off 140 If I'm stuck in traffic (145-155). I thought the sender was bad too, but I put the emergency brake on and put it in reverse, saw the gauge climb to 170 in about 2 minutes and stay there. Driving at 70MPH unloaded, the gauge never moves.

BTW, took 12 quarts of ATF for the job. '95 line $85 from the dealer. As previously mentioned, remove the check valve from the line.
