Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Auto Trans Temp senor location

I am installing an Isspro transmission temp sensor in my 1995 3500 with auto trans.

I know that you are suppose to use the second test port on the passenger side. I took out the plug and attempted to install the sensor and it would not thread. I tried it several times as well as a friend tried to thread it without success. Any suggestions? Anybody have this problem before? It looks like it should fit.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry I can't help on the thread issue.



I put mine in the line from the trans to the cooler. If the lines on your '95 are upgraded, you need a "T", a bushing, a JIC/pipe connector a hose barb/pipe connector and some hose. This will replace the factory hose on the block mounted cooler.

1/8 NPT thread in the line pressure test port works fine on my '95. It's the test port in the middle of the side of the transmission.

I hope we are talking about the same ports. They are on the passenger side of the transmission. The three are not in a straight line but rather at an angle from front to back. The first port is the lowest on the side. The middle one is higher up and further back. The third port is the highest and to the rear of the transmission. Are these the right ports?

This is exactly why anyone who is going to work on their own truck really should have a Dodge service manual. I just looked at my service manual to make sure I have them correct. So to make sure there is no confusion I will list them all. There are four test ports on the passenger's side and one on the driver's side. There is one located on the front servo. It is the most forward of the four on the passenger's side. About the middle of main transmission case is the accumulator test port (also known as the line pressure test port). There are two located on the rear part of the main case. The upper one is the governor test port and the lower one that faces to the rear is the rear servo test port. On the other side of the transmission on the rear of the main case is the overdrive clutch test port. All of the are 1/8 NPT. The one you want to use for a temp gauge is the line pressure test port. There is constant pressure and flow at that port. Some people use the front servo test port because it is more convient. The problem with using it is that the flow is restricted there except in 2nd gear. Anyway, the one you want to use is the one in the middle of the case on the right (passenger's) side.

Just to make sure you have the correct fitting, a 1/8 NPT plug is tapered and is about 3/8 inch diameter at the small end.

It has a 27 threads per inch pitch.

I had the same problem with mine (94) and a friends (95). The threads matched on the plug we removed from the trannies but when we put the temp sender in it stripped out the first thread. I also tried the front port on mine with the same results. So we just put them in the transmission cooler lines.

I have a Westach gauge. The sensor fitting fit with no trouble. I doped it up with some anti-seize before I installed it to seal it.
