Just installed trans temp gauge. Can someone tell me what a normal temp would be for the stock auto with and with out a load?

I can't give you the loaded specs but unloaded going down the highway at 70 in lockup mine runs around 145 and I have seen 180 while sitting in traffic.

I just got back from plowing snow, and I topped out at 220 a couple times, this was pushing pretty hard, I wouldnt recommend staying at that for very long. This temp was in the cooler line going to the cooler. Cant wait to get that Mag-hytec pan on:p

I was running about 170-185 degrees in lockup pulling a 29' Alpenlite 5er. This was in August and September 2001. Route traveled was from Alaska to N. C. to AR. and back to AK. Temp taken from transmission line.

My 2001. 5 stay low 140-145 when TC is locked up. In heavy traffic is when I see the highest temp or when spotting the trailer. Read line coming out of transmission. SNOKING

When I'm pulling my 11,000 lb 5th, I see about 140 degrees in O/D on the flat at 62 MPH. Pulling the hills in second gear 38 MPH and 2800 RPM it gets up around 180 degrees. All this has been with cool ambient temps, so pulling a hill in the summer may be higher.

My sensor is in the "hot" line and I wouldn't want to run it long over 200 degrees for long transmission life.

My sender in the "hot" line to the cooler reads 125 on the freeway. 150-180 around town. The real issue is climbing steep hills where you have to go too slow to get into 3rd gear lock-up. I have seen 250 even durring a winter snow storm.

Bill K. said your hot line temp can go as high as 285 before he gets too concerned.

I added a double deep pan with a second sender in the pan. The highest hot line I have seen with this setup has been 210 with the pan reading only at 125. So, clearly the transmission was not in danger if the pan was only 125. :)
